Default Unsucsessful...

Well I "tried" - in vain as it would seem - to get someone to offer a helping hand in the Tires and Wheel Forum, but I guess my question just wasn't valid enough since I wasn't referring to a "Tundra". So - I thought I'd bring it to the 1st Generation Tacoma Forum and see if you guys could help. So please - bear with me.

Anyone know what the "proper" tire pressure might be for a set of 31x10.50x15 Duler Revos? I've replaced the VERY sh!tty stock aluminum wheels - on my '95 Tacoma - with a set of aftermarket Eagles. No real issues here as I've stayed with the "stock" wheel sizing. Back spacing is a bit more however, as you might expect with aftermarket wheels. Not real pleased with that, because it offsets the wheel and tire combo out from under the fenders by about an inch, but at least the "wheels" themselves are 10K BETTER than those crappy stockers! I guess I'll have to live with the tires sticking out from under the fenders until I can find a set of fender flares. Er,ummm... anyone have a set they're not using just laying around?

My problem is, the info on the truck's serial plate - regarding tire pressure - just doesn't seem quite right. Shortly after buying the truck, I replaced the stock Goodyears with a set of BF Goodrich A/T's. Unfortunately they didn't seem to last all that long! I can only "guess" it's because of "where" I bought the tires (Wally World - A.K.A. Wal Mart) and NEVER really getting a proper tire pressure "number" from the start. Not to mention how "slap-happy" the tire techs always seemed to be at this "particular" Wal Mart, but that's another story all together! In any case, I think not having that "correct" tire pressure number certainly "helped" in those tires wearing out as fast as they seemed to.

I'm just looking for some good numbers - in the hope - that I can make these Revos "last" a little longer. And most importantly - WEAR BETTER!! I'm leaning toward 35 PSI. However, when I had the tires installed, I decided to check the pressure in each tire a week later and realized that the tire shop must have set the pressure quite high - at 40 PSI! Personally I think that's too high. But I'd just kind of like to make sure I get it right - this time - long before I end up with bad tire wear and end up with yet another set of tires with a "short" life span!

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated!

On my previous truck, my 1992 Mazda B2600i , I upgraded to 31x10.50x15 Bridgestone Duelers (non-revos) and I didn't have any official numbers either, but I ran them at 35psi and that seemed to do the trick. Smooth ride and no unusual wear.

Hope it helps.

NON LT tires I run at 34psi and get 40k miles out of them and the NEW Michelins I just put on my wifes Sequoia are set to the same thing.

My LT's on my Tundra I run at 40 psi. The Truck tires wear faster because they are softer and the ride is sooooooo nice. I dont mind the trade off.
This is what works for me.

Experiment and see what works for you. There are alot of variables, road conditions, weather, driving habits, truck weight, ect....

I have had BFG AT's 285/70/17 on my tundra for about 70K with no problems whatsoever. Run them at 32-rear and 34 front. Been down to 17psi off road in mex and barstow with no problems. I think what you need is a really good alignment person.

Actually I have an alignment guy. It took having someone else do the first alignment on my Tundra DC - after lifting it 2" - and [basically] pissing away 60 bucks for that alignment, because the guy didn't have a clue - before I finally found and alignment guy who could "DO" it right the first time. So that really isn't the issue.

However, I must admit I'm somewhat gun-shy with any tire dealership. I'm sure you've heard the old phrase: "Once bitten, twice shy". And I guess that's the best way to describe my weariness. I just know that my BFG AT's didn't last as long as they "should" have and that's why I chose to give another tire brand a try. All I really need to know is what most of you guys would consider to be the "right" tire pressure for a set of [basically] stock size (31x10.5x15) tires. For the time being I'm settling with 37 PSI, unless I here a better reason to use a different number. With freaking gas prices the way they are now, I've simply GOT to get all the mileage out of these Revos I possibly can!

best way to tell how the tires are wearing is take a peice of chalk and make a line across the treads of the tire one in front and one in back and drive a couple of miles .at 40 pounds you probadly see just the center wearing out. i have stock tires on my 03 and run 35 in the front and 29 in the rear . 42000 miles and wearing perfect good luck

I think the best place to start when adusting tire pressure is to refer to the manufacturers specs on the sidewall of the tire that way if you do have problems with the tire you have a better chance of getting warranty replacement

I puchased my new AT2 Michelins 265/75/16 at the Costco tire shop and they set the tire pressure at 34psi. I haven't any tire wear problems on my 01 Tacoma.
