toyota is updating the tacoma lineup as we speak expect a f/e similar to tundra and new heaver doors with a door handle like the toyota sequoia....the 4.0v6 also found in the 4runner will be added to tacoma engine lineup hopefully we might expect the iforce v8 in the tacoma line (we will see)....expect the new tacoma to have a quad along with 4 door access cab...........
If that really is the next tacoma, which I know it is a photoshop, it would be really nice and would sell well..... But I will believe it when I see it!
that pict with the bra is the next tacoma and it was a toyota spy picture taken somewhere in the desert..........expect the fomer tacoma to look better in all areas hopefully it brings more leg room thats something the taco lacks and why i didnt buy one
I believe it is photochopped. However, more then likely that is what the Tacoma is going to resemble. The 4Runner and Tacoma/Pickup have always shared the same fascia and characteristics. With that being said the same powertrain(4.0 and 4.7) will probably be offered. Also, there are some other spy photo's of the Tacoma floating around that aren't photoshopped and look the same as the photo I attached. If I can find them I will post.
I agree. I think it is a good looking truck and it will be awesome if they introduce it w/the 4.7 V8. I bet it will be very soon that Toyota introduces a bigger badder V8 since they are putting their flagship motor(4.7) in smaller and lesser value models.
I sell cars for Toyota, recently went to a training class where they told us that a V8 tacoma might be available but there will definitely be no more 4cyl. Tacomas available. Which I think kinda sucks, that was a great little engine.
Anyone else get the feeling toyota is going to ruin a good, simple little pickup truck? Well I do when I hear things like it'll have a V8 and no 4 cylinder option. The thrifty 4 banger has been the trademark of toyota compact trucks for 20+ years. I think the V8 will be a beast under the hood of such a small truck, would love to have one. I also love the classic little inexpensive workhorse that toyota has always done so well. Bottom line- I hope the Tacoma doesn't morph into a different vehicle in the interest of making it "better." Perfect example, the Land Cruiser- was a great legend of the off roading world, simple, reliable and affordable. Now look at it, its a $55,000 bloated luxury vehicle.
I just bought a 2003 Tacoma Xtracab 4WD 4 cyl 5speed for that very same reason. I definately believe Toyota is going to ruin a good thing. For instance, the 2004 Tacoma is an entirely new vehicle for which Toyota will have to design brakes for. Remember the Tundra brakes? Those were the brakes that Toyota first tried to deny as having problems, then it took them 3 model years to eventually fix the problem.
I decided that I couldn't go through the pain of dealing with Toyota's antics around the teething pains of this entirely new vehicle. The 0% financing was also an offer I couldn't refuse, plus my sh!tbox Ranger was needing transmission work, so I figured 2003 was the year to make my move. I figure that of any engine Toyota makes, that 22RE inspired 2.7L 4 banger is the one to see 300,000 miles. I have a 1990 Toyota with the 22RE that has 375,000 miles on it and is still going strong.
I was going to buy a Tundra Access Cab 4WD V-8 but the 14 mpg commuting 100 miles/day to work was a bit much to take with today's gas prices. I definately could use the Tundra's room on weekends, but I'd be paying for it all week with poor gas mileage. So far I have 5000 miles on the Taco and no complaints, not even with lack of room - yet anyway.
My advice would be to buy the 2003 Tacoma before it's too late! If the track record for the redesigned Tacoma is anything similar to the Tundra, it will be 3 model years before Toyota gets around to admitting to then fixing the annoying problems. I decided that was an annoyance I could live without.
Tundra Venturer, You did the right thing by getting the last of a great little pickup. The next one is bound to be trouble prone for a while like most new models. I've been considering a 03 Tacoma as well. The best thing is you have piece of mind with the current Tacoma as its been around, almost unchanged, since 1995. Its likely not going to be as powerful as the next generation but a supercharger will change all that and they have em for the 2.7 now. Last the next one will probably be more expensive with unwanted pricey "electronic nannys" -(VSC,TRAC, HDC ect.) like on the 4runner. Although its a great compact truck I'm not sure I could justify a near $30,000 Tacoma. which is probably what one will cost when their through "improving" it .
I agree the taco is a great truck. I disagree that just because the next model is a first year vehicle for Toyota it will be likely problematic. I have a 95 taco with no issues and have had 2 4runners within the first model year or 2 with also no issues. I'm really looking forward to the next model with hopefully more space and power while still more gas thrifty than a full size.
DO AWAY WITH THE 4 CYL? Sounds like Toyota needs some upper management change. To do away with what got you where you are is, well its just not thinking straight. BTW if you are in the market for a 4cyl AUTO TRANS, start looking NOW. My son bought an 02 and we looked for 6 months. They are scarce as hens teeth. Lots of 6 cyl and std trans but not many with the 4 cyl -auto trans combo. Didnt want a Ford but looked at a Ranger anyway--they dont even make a 4 cyl AUTO TRANS, so they never had a shot at my business. Almost bought the GM because we couldnt find the Tacoma in that combo. GM and Chevy still offers this combo at this time in the S-10 and Sonoma. Glad we found a taco. Toyota gonna mess up big time if they do away with the 4 banger. ---Buzzard
I get on average about 15.5 mpg with my v8 mixed city and highway driving. I've talked to guys with the 2.7-liter 4-cylinder and they tell me they get ~ 20 mpg. I drive 350 miles a week @ 15.5 mpg that's 22.58 gallons a week. 22.58 gallons a week * $1.65 per a gallon of gas = $37.25 a week. If I got 20 mpg I would need 17.5 gallons a week @ a cost of $28.88 per a week. That's a $8.39 difference in cost per a week, $33.51 a month, or less than a few coffees from Dunkin Donuts a week.
