Default 2003 Tacoma Maintenance

Hi folks, I own a 2003 4cyl Tacoma with 80,000 miles. I've faithfully replaced the oil and air filters at specified intervals, but haven't done much else. I plan on replacing the automatic transmission fluid and having a fuel injector/plugs tune-up. Aside from the timing belt at 90K I wondered if there is any other maintenance I should be looking into.

You should be pretty good to go. If you feel like taking a road trip and seeing some scenery, I'd bring the truck to www.ipttrans.com

They use a vacuum system to suck out the old fluid so it gets it all out. Top notch service and those guys really do know transmissions in and out.

I beleave you have a timing chain since you have 4 banger. As far as injector service i wouldnt waste your money. What i do is buy some Lucas Upper Cylinder lubercant and add that to the gas every fill up...4oz worth. Not only does it clean the injectors, it keeps the upper cylinders lubercated along with the valves and rest of the fuel system. Plugs should be changed every 30K.

If its the same auto as the 3.4L you dont have a filter in the auto tranny, you have a screen. Simply drain whats in the pan and refill...do this maybe three times or at least till the fluid is bright red.

Arb is correct. You have a timing chain. Plugs is super simple to change out yourself. Just get some OEM plugs at the dealership. It takes me 1/2 hour and mine's a 6 cyl.

Get all of your differential and transfer case fluids changed out, too. I'd go with Amsoil synthetic. You can do this yourself real easy.
