Default 2002 Tacoma - Need Front Struts replaced, how Much?$$$?

I just got a quote to replace my front and rear shocks for 640 bucks.

Obviously I am not going to pay that.

I live in NY, so everything is expensive, but that wAy too much.

I can do the rears shocks myself, seems fairly simple. I dont want to deal with the front, so just curious as how much a "fair" price would be for this operation. I am just starting to call around for quotes.

Was that quote parts and labor? If so, definitely sounds right. Labor costs are pretty high around 80-90/hr. Just for the front, you're still looking $300-$400 including parts.

I bought my Bilstien 5100's for $162 and had Tire Kingdom install them. They charged me $294...total = $456. The rear shocks would cost another $160 plus $90-$100 for install. Grand total of $716. Then again, that is for Bilstien 5100's. So if $640 is for parts and labor....not bad in my book...that is if you are getting quality parts...i.e. Bilstien.

No way I'd pay that much. The rears are cake. Just unbolt, then bolt on. The fronts are a bit more tricky. Not that much tricky, though. There are three bolts in the upper control arm, then one at the lower. Unbolt these, then take them to a tire/spring shop. They can put the new shocks on there for you. Around here, they charge about $20 (so $40 total). It's worth it, if you've never worked with a spring compressor.

Then all you have to do is just bolt them back up. Very easy to do. I did a 4Runner's and the fronts only took me about 2 hours. But that was with doing the shock mount to springs myself with a spring compressor. I could probably knock that out in an hour now.

The fronts should be coilovers. Spring and coil in one unit. Very easy to change. If you can do it yourself upgrade to something better, Camburg, Donahoe, King. I got Donahoes...although i paid 950.00
