2004 doublecab Taco Speaker size

I have an 04 doublecab taco 4x4. I want to know what size speakers that are in there already and what speakers will fit. Also if anyone has an opion on what type of speakers i should use I have an Pioneer DEH-P6000UB deck installed already.

Your stock speaker size is 6X8 (both front and back). Speakers listed as '5X7' would probably mount with no trouble (6X8 and 5X7 size groups are essentially the same thing as far as mounting dimensions).

Moving up to 6X9 ovals or 6.5" rounds will require some adaptation / fabrication.

Your biggest concern will be speaker depth. Tacos have relatively 'shallow' spaces for door speakers.

Basically once you get to a speaker depth of circa 2.5" or higher you'll be needing spacers or other modifications to fit the speakers.

Up to / through about 2.25" speaker depth you shouldn't run into any significant issues.

ok cool thanks. how hard would it be to make 6x9's fit if i did the work myself

The 6X9 mounting hole / bolt pattern is 'larger' than that required for the 6X8 / 5X7 sized speaker.

Some additional cutting (and certainly some additional drilling of holes) would be required.

I don't know if there's an off-the-shelf adapter plate for mounting 6X9's in the 6X8 locations. You might try Crutchfield to see if they offer something like that.
