Shifting strangeness.
I have a 97, v6 tacoma with 4wd and super charger that just does not shift right.
When its cold, I have 1 forward gear for a mile or so, then it drops another gear, another and another to full set.
When its warmmed up and slow or a stop, it cycles through the gears like any automatic I have driven, except it does not lock the torque converter unless going 50mph or over.
Til the torque converter locks, it upshifts like any other automatic I have driven. Its not guaranteed over 50mph it will lock, however when it does, it refuses to unlock unless I fall below 50mph. So, if I throttle up, I just go from reading a vacuum to zero then to boost and very mild acceleration. If I need to pass or move I click the od button or shift to 2nd.
I checked with the dealer, they said since it sat for 5 years it should be flushed, but flushing can make it better, worse or no change.
It has a cooler, never towed and it was a weekend driver that has mobile 1 synth fluids in it.
I adjusted the slack out the throttle cables, the cruse, throttle and possibility tranny cable. I also installed a 4 awe size wire from the engine to the battery ground and it seems to shift better from 20-40mph, but the problem still remains with cold and over 50 when the torque converter is locked.
