Default Two Questions...

1) The Horn.
I don't know "why" it is, but every used Toyota I've owned has ended up with a horn issue. The first was a 1982 model. The horn problem with that truck turned out to be in the steering wheel. The contact ring in the hub was boogered up and had to be replaced. HOWEVER the Tacoma is another deal all together! My 1995 Tacoma has developed a problem - within the past year - where the freaking horn works when it wants to! Usually when it's above say 48 degrees the crazy thing won't work. But... when the temperature goes below 48 degrees - the colder the better it seems - the damned thing seems work every time?!

So, I've asked around and I've been told it's probably the horn itself. Problem is... I CAN'T FIND THE DAMN THING to check it out! Does anyone know "where" the hell the freaking horn is on the early model Tacomas (i.e. 1995-1999)?! It's a stupid question I know, but in all honesty I cannot find the f-ing thing!

Ok on to...
2) E-Brake Light.
My emergency brake light literally stays on! ESPECIALLY when it’s good and cold outside! The exact opposite of the freaking horn! Go figure. In any case, I know the E-brake isn't engaged, because it's the old hand-pull lever type under the dash. However the light stays on! Every now-and-then I can make a turn - to the left or right - and the light will go out momentarily, but once I make the turn it's back on again, which further tells me the E-brake isn't engaged.

I think I know what the issue is here. I think it's just the mechanical solenoid/sensor - which I "assume" is located somewhere on the rear brake drum - and it's just sticking. I'm hopeful a little bit of lubricant will fix this problem, but I won't ever know - because I have NO idea what I'm looking for! No idea what that solenoid/senor even "looks" like.

So that said - once again - can anyone tell the "exact" location of that sensor and what I need to be looking for to ensure I find the "right" thing?

As always guys.... MANY THANKS in advance.

Dave

I have hella horns and they are right behind the grill next to the head lights. Round metal things. Mines are red, but yours should be black. I love mines and use it every and any chance I get.

My taco has been lifted and its rumored the cable is stretched so it doesnt seat properly, so it stays on a day. Then it goes off. If I use it, it stays on, but after some driving or a day it goes off. I can push down on the handle and it goes off instantly and if I do that a few times it will stay off. It will also come on if you are low on brake fluid or if you have any brake problems I believe.

I drove off with the brake on a few times and decided to just not use it any more.

Can't help with the horn, but as said, your brake fluid level is low in the reservoir.

Sounds like the LEVEL sensor in the master cylinder is sticking. It is in the resovior. There are no sensors in the drums.
There is also a switch at the end of the parking brake handle under the dash, make sure those wires are ok and the switch isnt broken. Check the parking brake cables to make sure they are not rusted and only partially releasing.
