Question dead battery & broken hood release

'00 Prerunner

Need to fix the first before I can do the second. Did a web-wide search and the few suggestions I saw seemed pretty involved - like prying/drilling bolt(s).

Is that my only hope?

Where is the release broken ? If it is at the inside handle you can use pliers to pull teh cable while holding the sheath. Otherwise take a close look in the grill and see if you can access where the cable leaves the sheath on the hood release mechanism. You may be able to move the release arm with your finger. On my earlier '80s Toy I could quite easily reach my index finger in and trip the release. Worth a try, pehaps even a coat hanger may get at it.

The front bumper of all 96-04 tacomas is only held on by four bolts. Remove them and you can access the hood latch.
