Default atf tranny oil change

The dealer quoted 180 bucks to flush tranny. Only a few qtss of fluid and decided if I just changed a part of it I would just do it myself.

I just dumped the pan twice. I parked on an incline and swear it was more than 2 qts that came out the pan. I then refilled it with 2 qts castor for imports and cycles it through the gears and in nutral. After a few minutes, I changed the pan again. This time less came out and it was red, bright red, vs dark red like the first pan.

Anyway, it shifts soo smooth you can not feel it, just watch the tach needle drop. I then checked it and it was below the cold mark. I added 2 more qts and its between hot and cold. So, seems like I did drain it. The manual says the pan takes 2 qts, the tranny dry 6.

Just seems odd since the e250 I use to drive took like 17 qts of tranny fluid dry, like a gallon or so for the pan.

I checked at another dealer, said just use dex3 for fluid, they sold none in small containers under 50 gallons and no filter.

Default Re: atf tranny oil change

Needs to be done on a flat surface. You risk the chance of over filling it.
