Default Jump start & securikey plus

'01 Taco w/ dealer installed securikey plus system.

Battery in remote on key died and not replaced. Car battery dead. Upon connecting jumper cables from another vehicle, the alarm goes off (horn sounds, lights flash) but cannot get any attempt at a start from engine.

Does this mean that alarm is somehow engaged and will not allow engine to be jumped until alarm is disengaged?

Cool Re: Jump start & securikey plus

Hey there. If your system is keeping you from starting your vehicle then I would guess it's the starter lockout relay so what you can do is go under your dash on the driver side and locate the CPU for the Securikey+ system. When you locate it just unplug it and this will cut the power to it and the relay should fail closed allowing you to start your vehicle. If you know anything about relays then just locate the relay in the same general area and jumper it out.
I had one of those things in my Solara that I bought in Texas. The batteries seem to last not as long as your average remote and the key fob is just a stupid design in my eyes, I can't believe Toyota installed these in their vehicles!
I ended up ripping that stupid system out and installing a nice Viper remote start/alarm system....much nicer!
You can go to your local stereo installation store and have them rip that system out and install a good one for a fair price. Get a Viper or Clifford system as they have never failed me.

Good luck, Tim
