Question Thinking of trading/selling for Tacoma Double Cab

I have a 02 SR5 Access Cab Tundra (V8) and am considering selling or trading it in for a 03 Tacoma Double Cab PreRunner V6. I will be moving to Reno Nevada so I plan on doing some offroad stuff but not too extreme (no Rubicon Trail) The Tundra is nice but its more truck than I need and gas is way higher out there. And my towing needs are now minimal. Plus I now need a usable back seat. I am hoping to get into the new Tacoma for about what I owe on the Tundra ($19,500) or pretty close to it. The Tundra has TRD Offroad, Ivan Stewart grille and bumper, Hellwig, running boards and Truxedo cover. I figure I can add the TRD Offroad stuff to the Tacoma for cheaper myself. Is the Tacoma as good as everyone says? Is it foolish to do this? Any thoughts, opinions and comments are appreciated.

well, youll miss the room in the front seat of the tundra.

other than that, i looked real long and real hard at the double cab tacoma simply because it's a reasonable sized truck for everyday use, capable offroad, and has a back seat. it'd be a heckuva weekend-warrior-mobile ...if youve gotta get rid of the tundra, it's not a bad purchase at all, even comes with an electric rear diff locker.

btw, when are you thinking of selling/trading?

I am looking to sell in the next month or so. With or without the minor mods I have done.

Default I'm w/ you too!

I am considering the excact same thing myself. I too have an 02 Tundra and , while the tundra is great and all, I need the backseat room and the better gas mileage(although minimal) will hopefully help me out in a few months!! The Taco's rock and a facelift is "expected" this spring or next summer. Sounds like a good deal you've gotten a hold of, take it man! Do you have incentves were you live? I am waiting for some decent finance rates and I will hopefully be there myself! Best of luck.

I love the Tundra, especially the front seat room. But I test drove a Tacoma and its fine in the front, event thought I'm 6' 2" and 240. But I need a truck (or a good offroad vehicle) and want reliability. The Tacoma seems to fit all my needs.

I have no quotes yet, just guessing what I can get on trade in or sale for the Tundra and hopefully a good discount off sticker for the Tacoma. Once I make a final decision, I will probably post my truck for sale here and/or ebay.

Cool Proven track record

The Taco's have a proven track record of reliability. Now thats not to say some things will just happen. While the Tundra is in only its 4th production year.

wwwwoooow...im a lil dude and i thought the tacoma was too cramped lol . if ya fit tho, it's a sweet truck...honestly it's enough room for me as well, guess i just like to strrrretch out . it is excellent offroad, bone stock even...the suspension is just fine for even the "moderate" rated trails (not the fire road stuff, but the ugly rocky stuff ), and that locker really gives it a step up on any other stock truck (i think only the titan will also have a stock rear locker...?).

Default Me too!

So did you get a good deal on a double cab yet?
I have a 2001 Tundra and I am also looking into trading for a Tacoma Double cab. I love my Tundra but I need to get to a lower monthly payment I had a 98' TRD Tacoma xtra-cab that was an awesome truck. My only complaint with that truck was the limited room behind the seat. I hope to finance around $19500 using my Tundra for trade. I will let you know.

I have teenage sons who are just as big as me and getting bigger. I would prefer to own the Tacoma if it werent for them. I just needed things a little bigger all around. I plan to buy a Tacoma once they are out on their own. I test drove the ext cab and loved it! But the back seat in those things are worthless when it comes to passengers.

Of all the trucks I have ever owned, my 96 Dodge Ram had to best all around interior of Toyota, Chevy and Ford. But, God did that Dodge ever give me headaches! Never again!

I'm not sure what set (south east toyota) rebates and financing is. I work at COLEMAN TOYOTA in baton rouge, la and our rebates are $750 right now. Were a pretty good size dealer and i work from a cost plus basis when dealing with customers. If I can be of any assistance please pm me and i'll be happy to help you.

Angry Re: Me too!

No, I decided to stick with the Tundra. Those Tacomas Double-Cab Prerunner V6's are almost the same price as the Tundra! Gas mileage is minimally better plus the Tundra V8 rules. I'll put up with the smaller back seat. Maybe when the redesigned Tacoma comes out I can get a deal on a 02 or 03.

At first reading your post, I'm starting to feel your way. Tundras have bad designs on the back seats. If you blank out the door handle on the Extended Cab, it just look like a regular 2 door truck. But when I take a look at the 2003 Tacoma 4 door Extended Cab, it just doesn't do justice with the Tundra. Tundras are more bigger, meaner looking. If Tacomas were as big a truck like the Tundras are, I'll go for it in a heart beat.
