Default Tacoma 4x4 VS Mustang GT w/ VIDEO !

Wow.. finally got some good video !
Ok, here is the deal.

My truck:
96 Tacoma 4x4 XtraCab
3.4L V6 5 speed
3" exhaust, 3" high flow cat, 3" dynomax ultraflow
Cut airbox and custom intake

Mustang
1994-98 (I think is the range.. the 215hp ones)
Looks to be stock .. or close to it

Location:
CO Springs, approx 6500ft elev

Well, check the video to see for yourself !! pretty darn happy ! I know those years were not to good for the mustang.. but come on.. v8 vs v6 4x4 .. feels pretty good I tell ya !

I know its hard to tell its a V8... but let me give you some background. I have raced about 4-5 V6 Mustangs from late 80's to new. Some at the track, some on the street. I raced a newer V6 stang at the track and beat it by almost 2 seconds (with a sloppy spinning start)... and have waxed all the others on the street. I could see that it was a GT, and here it. But its a little tougher for you all watching the vid.. didn't want any confusion.

Here ya go: http://turbotaco.freeservers.com/Taco_MustangGT.AVI

-enjoy-
PS: If you wonder why he got over, my lane was about to end due to constuction .. glad he was nice enough to let me over so I could finish him off .. lol

Dude, I used to own a Tacoma and I'm pretty sure the 'stang let
up on the throttle. You pulled away much too easy. Cool vid though

Looks like you took him off the line because you are the better driver and he started to catch you then he let up because of the construction ahead.

One of these days your gonna get caught or worse yet get hurt!

Well your right, he did let up.. you can see when he just dropps off.. but he wasnt making ground (just gave up I guess).. it looks that way when he gets over.. but when my friend finds him w/ the cam again hes farther back.. and then he quits ... I do think I had the better launch and thats why I won... I had toyed w/ him earlier at higher speeds .. 50-60 mph+ and wasnt able to pull on him.. maybe just a little .. so I knew I would have to get the launch.. and beat him at lower speeds...

Oh, your right.. that construction area was a bummer.. I'm glad he got over... he couldnt at first cuz there was a ricer in the far left lane trying to race us.. after we left him he had room to move. Not a good placed to race.. at all .. but I had been hanging w/ him trying to catch a light for like 20 min

I dunno, man. Looked like he was gaining pretty good after you upshifted into 3rd, until he let up. Pretty cool action, though. Did the stang launch at elevated rpm? Do you race around like that often?

We go out and fart around on Saturday nights quite a bit... beat up on the ricer kids w/ the 4x4 ...

I think he had it wound a little on launch.. because It sounded to me (hard to hear on video) that we both left some rubber... and I heard him kinda playing w/ the RPMs ... its hard to tell though. Partially because there was a ricer over there trying to race too I think ...

I know he would eventually get me.. the Taco sucks at high speeds do to drag.. but I think I could have taken him in the 1/4 ...

I just watched it again, and I see what you guys are talking about. It looked like he was gaining when he moved over a lane to let me over... Im not sure if it just looks that way because of the way he got over (I think so) .. its hard to tell because we lost sight of him on the video for a second....

hard to say, but he must not of been gaining very fast or he would have just gone a little longer and beat me...

Very fun,,

When I get this turbo on (If the other parts EVER show up) I will have to go find a new GT

What are the 5.0 stangs running in the quarter up there at 6,500 ft? With the turbo, you should be able to spin the tires thru at least second gear. Have you been to the track with your Taco?

I didnt see any 5.0s run.. well 1 did, but it was not stock.. had SC among other things.. a stock 98 LS1 z/28 runs about a 15.1.. and the guy was pretty happy w/ that ! I think they could dip in the 14's but i didnt see one... it was a hot night though.. bout 90

New scoop GT, w/ exhaust, was running mid 15's I think...maybe high 15's

the new Mustang V6 I ran pulled like an 18.7
new V6 Camaro ran an 18.2

I couldnt do better than high 16's (still not bad for 4x4 up here)
track was slick as snot.. burned 1st real bad.. and some more in 2nd .. every time

stuff is slow as tar up here...

I should be able to take a new GT ... except for what you just mentioned.. traction. I do pretty good on the street. and can guarantee I will be putting the smackdown on some of the new GT's around here (have seen them racin around.. not that fast) ... but at the track.. it might not happen.. 1st gear will be a joke... I hope to get traction by 2nd..

Im looking for a LSD for my truck...

Hey if you need someone to run your engine through Dyno2000 and Dragstrip2000 I can help you with that!

It’s kind of funny that you are going through all this trouble though to make a 4x4 fast.

My previous car was a '99 Firebird, and I'm telling you he let off that throttle.
Either way, street racing is both dangerous and illegal. The real risk is probably in losing your license... especially when you're going out of your way to create evidence with that camera.
