Default Is P265-75-R15 A Stock size on 1999 Tacoma?

Hey, I have a 1999 Tacoma that I bought used a few years back and it has a set of Good Year P265/75/R15's on it. Does anyone know if this is the stock tire size? These tires have been on this truck for the last 3 years that I owned it and they have not worn down at all!! They stick in the rain, the truck slides all over the place and I have to put it in 4WD just to take off in the rain. I have a set of Bridgestone Revo Dueler A/T's on my "2005" Sequoia and I love them. I want to put the same tires on my Tacoma but I am not sure if I want to stay with the same size that's already on the truck or if I should change it. So, I guess my question is, What's the biggest tire I can fit on a 1999 Tacoma without have any rubbing problems? I would love to hear from some opinions. Should I go bigger? Can I go bigger? Should I stay the same? Thanks In Advance!!!! Johnnny

I had a 98 limited and now have a 01 sr5 and 265-75-16 came on both. I tried to go bigger and they rub with turns and in any situation that your shocks compress

Check out tire rack. It will tell you the original size and also optional sizes you can run safely.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 95-00 Tacomas with 15x7 Alloy wheels came with 31x10.5R15 tires and P265/70R16 became the tire size on later models with 16 inch alloy wheels. Research the archives here for what you need for a lift to accomodate bigger tires.

If you have the 15x6 steel wheels, the stock size is P225/75R15.

Bigger tires look better in proportion to the truck, but I had far better traction in the snow with P235's on my old steel rims than I do now with brand new Dueler AT Revos 265's on alloy wheels. Bigger tires also reduce your acceleration and braking performance if you don't regear, as you know.

What is your primary objective? gas economy? Look good? save money? Offroad performance? rain? snow? dry?

Well, I called tire rack and told them I wanted to put as big as a tire I can on the truck without having any rubbing problems or any other problems. They told me to get a size LT31X10.50SR-15. I then decided to get the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo tires because I had just put a set of those on my "2005" Sequoia this past November and I love them. They are by far the best rain snow and ice tire I have ever had. Before I found this tire I thought the best tire was the BFG A/T's but this tire blows them away. I have had the new tires on my Tacoma for almost a week now and I love them, the ride is so smooth and there is NO road noise at all. Oh, I almost forgot the tires cost $138.00 a piece and there was a $100.00 mail in rebate so it was $452.00 for all 4 tires. I thought the price was a little high because I paid about $60.00 less for all four of the same tires on my Sequoia and they where 17 inch rims. But it don't matter, I got what I wanted. Thanks for everyone's help. Johnnny
