Hey Free,,,I was just out looking at Tacomas today. ThPreRunner I believe designates certains options including the 6 cyl engine. I do not believe you can order leather but I was told its a port installed option,,,at least in the S/E states. Anyone have any opinions on the 4dr Taco,,as it what i am looking at,,,,too small,,too short bed,,etc. Any info is sincerely appreciated
Ok to answer both of you..... The PreRunner, is not 4 wheel drive it is 2 wheel...(unless that changed, but I don't think it did..... To my knowledge only the Limited Tacoma has leather available...... And the Double cab Tacoma is awesome, the back seat isn't that bad at all, my dad and a friend sat in the back seat on a 500 mile trip and didn't have any complaints.... The bed could be a tad bigger but if you don't do hauling everyday and only need it for some weekend yard work it is perfect...... I hope this answers the questions.... If not ask more I will try to answer as I have owned both a 98 Prerunner and now a 2002 Double cab.

PreRunner is 2WD with 4WD suspension, same truck just no 4WD. As far as limited, yes, Tacomas are available in Limited trim with leather, this is the top of the line model.
To see a Limited, look under Pricing/Dealer Discussion, How long have you been waiting for special order? In a reply to my post, Dianne shows a picture and description of a Limited Tacoma.
Actually, I have to correct my last post. The picture in that post is not of a Limited, it is a picture of a color-keyed model. The description though, is of an '03 Limited.
To make the picture show a Limited, imagine the grill being chromed.
First time poster. I'm actually looking to buy a 4WD 01-04 double cab tacoma but am torn (no pun intended) over trying to find leather seats as well. I'm sure most would beat me up over the preference but I'm trying to find an all in one solution. I love the the short beds, 4 doors, body style, manufacturer, not horrid lengthwise to street park, cheap to fix, all of it... save the cloth interior. I can feel the attacks already but just want something that doesn't feel like you're hauling the beater out to dinner on a saturday night but also works to chuck a wet dog/whatever in the back. Anyways so thats the pretense.
From checking this thread however it looks as though there may be some used tacomas with port installed option leather seats floating around the Southeast and think I may have found one example.
Those seats look awfully manufacturer'esq to me and she'd be perfect if it had 4WD. Really think these guys look slick. Matches up however with the SE mention as this one is out of Southern Florida.
Does anyone know if these are the port installed option or just a slick aftermarket job? Are port installed options available from their original dealership as an add on even for later models like the 04 or is that a choose when you buy sort of thing?
Secondly does a 4 cylinder come in 4WD or does 4WD require you to step up to a V6 in the double cab model?
I've been researching ttora, customtacos and Ih8mud and though seat swaps look possible with welding or changing seat brackets the back bench appears nasty to switch out and don't want to have half leather half cloth. Seat covers are a fall back option. Ordering after market is ok but still seems to look ghetto, always looks aftermarket. With knowing this ahead of time any tips to track those down would be really helpful. Too much effort for what its worth? What do you guys think?
I've only seen one Tacoma with leather seats and I don't think it was a factory job. The seats are interchangeable so even if you found a Tacoma with cloth seats, you could swap in the leather ones. I've even seen people modifying the seat brackets to put seats from other luxury vehicles in the Tacoma.
