Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I recently had a 2000 Tacoma Single Cab with the 2.4lt. 4cly engine
and automatic tranmission. I had the need for speed so I was taking it
to 110mph all the time and I had no problems with it at all. It just recently past the 87,000 mile mark till a drunk driver hit me drivers side.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
2002 Taco 5VZFE (3.4L) auto with 72K. The only thing that need to be changed was a leaky ps pump..no biggie under warrenty and the lower ball joint recall. Other than that shes been bulliet proof. I did a tow from california to texas (1500 miles) in the start of last summer about 3500-4000 lbs will no ill effects. Before the tow my buddy and i replaced the fan clutch with a one that comes with the tow package.
I run synthetic fluids from the engine to the rearend and also run a secondary tranny cooler. Take good care of your ride and you and her will live happily ever after.

I have an 02 Tundra 3.4 with 71K. I also have a tranny cooler on it and have run syn oil since new (well 2880 miles after break in). U have to have an extra tranny cooler exp with the trans probs the tundras have had in the early years. No "major" probs, everything has been covered under warranty except the O2 sensor (ball joint recall, cat converter, p/s exhaust manafold crackd for an unk reason and was replaced)
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I have a 2001 Tacoma, SR5 Prerunner Double Cab, 2.7L Auto, 2WD, TRD off road package
Hasn't had a single problem, 90,000 miles.
I bought it used from the Toyota dealer with 64K miles on it, Certified pre-owned, and I'm confident that it never had any problems because the previous owner kept it in above excellent condition, with 3,000 mile oil change intervals with complete dealer service records. I still get the oil changed every 3k miles.
I'm not sure what the reason was, but the front brakes were overpowering the rear brakes and doing more work than necessary, which I noticed due to an obscene amount of front axle brake dust, highly occasional front axle brake squeaking, and stopping on a dime / almost being thrown through the windshield if I even THOUGHT about pressing the brake pedal, even slightly. So at 84k miles they replaced the front brake pads, front rotors and cleaned / adjusted the rear brakes, which put the braking system back in balance and solved the problem. Unfortunately it was like a $500 repair. Ouch!
But other than new tires/brakes, nothing has had to be replaced.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
Got a 2000 with 230,000 miles on it. Stock except for K&N Intake system and TRD Tranny cooler. When new it got 26 mpg. Now it's 20 mpg. Had a miss at 215,000 and CEL came on with a misfire Cylinder 1. Infamous burned valve. Cyl. 1 and 3 were burned. Hearing rumors about using AM/Pm Gas-Bad.
Quoted Valve job at $1800 from dealer. Did it myself for $750.
Never checked the valves, find out I should get them checked every 100,000.
I put 130 miles a day on it.
Runs Great- Shooting for over 300,000
Love this truck- Not really a fan of the new style tacoma
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I've got a 95.5 Taco 4x4 extended cab 5 spd w/ the 2.7 4 cyl. (3rzfe) I have had the starter rebuilt a few years back after I soaked it in a creek and the points corroded. I replaced the stock exhaust manifiold around 150k after it cracked. I replaced it with a LC Performance header that lasted about 100k before it cracked the welds at the 4 into 1 collector. Then i went back to the stock manifold. I have replaced all 4 shocks once. I upgraded the front springs to v6 automatic spring rates to make up for my TJM Bull bar and winch housing. I've never replaced the front rotors and I have never changed the rear brake pads. I'm still on the stock clutch and exhaust!! Besides that just front brakes a few times, fluids, belts etc.. I changed out the tranny, transfer case and diffs with sythetic 75-90w at 100k and again at 250k. I'm now at 272k and counting. I still get 20mpg if I run 75mph w/ the cruise on. This truck has been abused but never neglected. Most of the body panels have been replaced at one time or the other due to abuse. I did the deck plate mod 4 or 5 yrs ago and I have a K&N with around 200k on it. I'm religious with 3k oil changes. I just run dino oil. Valvoline or Castrol GTX, what ever is on sale that week. I have photos of the old girl 3 foot in the air and I have had water in the cab more times that I can remember. The tranny and tranfer case both just barely leak. I mean I have spots the size of silver dollars where I park it every day and the levels never noticably change. She still doesn't burn any oil. This old Taco is the ROOSTER. You know she aint gunna die. I plan on 300k easy. I might get sick of driving it before I wear it out. It's really a matter of how long I can go before I want a new Tundra. But I haven't had a repair bill in years. I haven't had a payment since 99'. It's hard to give the old girl up with a track record like that. She dosen't owe me a penny. This truck has never left me stranded. I find it hard to believe that I can find anything new, even a new Toyota that will be this good to me.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I have an 01, 2.7 4x4 with 114000. Biggest/only problem was crap leaf springs. Mine are completely collapsed, not even flat but have a reverse arch to them, plus one is cracked, so I have to spend some major money to replace both rear's. Other than that, its great, no fluid leaks, minor rust on frame but that's life in New England. Replaced the front pads and rotors around 100,000, change the oil every 3000 to 5000. Question: those of you who get over 20 mpg, how do you do it? Do you stay below 70mph on the highway? Have 2x4? Some other secret? I check my mileage every time I fill up. The best I've ever been able to do is 19mpg.

Checkout Deaver springs although if your not lifted in the front they mybe a waste of money.

Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I have a 97 Tacoma 4x4 Ext Cab with 208,000 miles and running smooth. My brother in law bought it will 117.000 miles and the only thing that has been done to it besides basic maintanence is rebuilding the Starter. The starter's contact bushings when bad, other than that it runs excellent......
