Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
i've had my truck for a few years now, and there really have been no problems or hassles, short of oil changes and other typical maintenance. but now i do have close to 75k on the truck and my steering is a headache. i ordered rack and pinion bushings from energy suspension, so hopefully that is the fix. other than that change the oil and run the piss out of the truck. it can take it and it will last. 220k Bought it used for the original owner. 2.7 with 5 speed, runs great..leaks nothing and doesen't burn oil. He also had zero problems with this truck. Fun to drive!! Goes great in the snow.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
Other than the ball joint recall, I had to replace one side marker bulb during the first 100,000 miles. The clutch slave cylinder was replaced at 135, 000 miles and the battery lasted seven years. The truck made two trips to Alaska where the original tires didn't fair so well. About half of those miles were towing a 16' travel trailer.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I have a 1995.5 tacoma v6 4x4 5-speed excab. I bought it in 99 with 80,000 miles and did a service on it then. I had a buddy change the timeing belt at 90,000 and I installed new shocks at 95,000. I did another complete service at 125,000 and just did a complete service at 180,000. I have changed oil every 3,000 and greased all fittings. A set of new tires at 145,000. I do not baby this truck I do alot of gravel road driving and tow a 17ft aluminum boat and a 16ft driftboat with it all the time. I will be changing the shocks again in the next month. going to put Bilstien HDs on for the towing and off road. I just bought an 05 tundra AC with 29,000 miles and I hope it half as good as my tacoma. I plan on keeping for my kids to drive in 6 more years (manual transmission) kids need to know how to drive with one.

2004 Pre-Runner 2WD V6 Auto.
119,000 No Problems (thank god!!!)
Timing belt @ 90k, oil, spark plugs, standard stuff.
Lots of mods to the power train, re-gear 4.88's, 33's, intake, exhaust, blah blah blah.... So my mpg calculations would be off because my speedo and odometer are off by alot. hahaha...

Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I had a 1998 xcab 4wd sr5 trd. It had 145,000 when I sold it last year for $8200. I bought it in 1999 for $19,900. The only issue I had was the starter contacts and the master cylinder. The damn thing was bullet proof. The truck was in very good condition when I sold it. The engine was so clean you could eat off of it.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I have over 100,000 miles on my 2002 Tacoma 4x4 5 speed 4 cyl. and I have never done anything but change the oil. I work in West Africa and all I see here are Toyota trucks. They are not what we get in the states though, these are 4 cylinder diesels, 4x4's, 4 door crew cabs and 5 speed manual transmissions. They also have soft tops that cover the cargo bed (think soft top Jeep) Why can't we get the same trucks in the US?

No one would want them in the USA. American's would consider the 0 - 60 MPH acceleration time of the 4 cyl diesel African Toyotas dismal, they'd be too noisy, they'd look too plain and utilarian, they wouldn't have 7 air bags, power windows, door locks, navigation and back up cameras. You see, in the USA, people don't buy 4x4 trucks because they need a vehicle for daily offroad use. They buy them mostly for social status reasons; e.g. to look "manly" and "bad *ss". And Americans want their 4x4 trucks to be as powerful as Corvettes - that's why the 2008 5.7 liter V8 Tundra owners add headers, cold air intakes and exhausts to them even though in stock form the 5.7 V8 Tundras can do 0 - 60 MPH in 5.4 seconds!
