Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I have been looking for a 2004 or older double cab 4x4. I like the older style better than the new larger ones. Every one I find has around 100k miles on it. Should I be afraid to buy one? I will have to finance the truck probably for four or even five years to fit it in my budget.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I purchased an '02 DC Tacoma PreRunner last Sept. 2WD 4 cyl. and it had 54,000 miles on it. So far I've only put 8,000 miles on it but haven't had any problems at all. I will only drive mine 8K-9K per year but I wouldn't hesitate to buy one with 100,000 miles on it. I guess it would just depend on what you want it for.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I sold my taco and got my tundra..but it was a 2000 SR5 extended cab V6 4wheel drive with the TRD supercharger installed by toyota. The only thing I added was a snugtop lid, exhaust and 6"lift with 33's. I sold it in 04 with 90,000 miles on it and never had a problem. I was waiting for the day to come when it would just explode into a fireball, because of the SC I always had a heavy foot on the accelerator and punished the engine on a daily basis...Well the big bang never came because my old Taco is still out there running. Unless someone really got a lemon, these trucks will run for a very long time with no problems.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
Update: 99 Taco V6 4x4 TRD
Daily driver and some pretty hard off-roading at times. No real serious mods. Adjustable Bilsteins and custom front & rear bumpers... pretty much it.
Just regular maintenance, no serious repairs, and I'm pushing 206K right now!! (YES, 206,000)
Long live Toyota!!
P.s. On average, I put between 40-50K a year on my vehicles.
Since this is now my daily driver, and I'm not driving anything else, this will accumulate most (all) of that mileage.
I have no worries...
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
WOW!!! 206000 ...right on cause I just purchased a '99 2.7L 4x4 short box fully loaded and a bit customized with 162000 on it for $10,000 and was wondering if I payed too much for such a high mileage truck. However I looked around and am finding high mileage Toyota trucks everywhere and for more than what I payed. I pick it up on Saturday afternoon and can't wait to drive it. This will be my 4'th Toyota truck, I wouldn't buy any other kind!
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I have an 01 with 136000 on it now, only had 75000 when I bought it. Money spent on it so far: set of 4 tires - $800
new exhaust system (winter in new england) - $400
new air/fuel ratio sensor (oxygen sensor in some states, MA requires an emissions test) - $300
set of 4 Bilstein shocks - $?? I don't remember what I paid for those
set of Alcan rear springs - $600
Of all those expenses, the only one's I absolutely HAD to do were the sensor and the exhaust, and those are items that wear with age no matter what you do, like brake pads. It's never leaked a drop of oil or coolant, and has never failed to start or overheated. I fully expect it to last until at least 200,000.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
I have had 4 Toyota trucks over the past 15 years. First an '88 standard cab with the 4cyl 22re motor and 5-speed. I drove it until it had about 175k then sold it to my brother to use on our ranch. It is still running great today at 225k miles.
Next was my ’94 X-cab, V6 5-speed, another great Toyota truck. Got it at 118k and drove it to 154k. Then a ’99 Tacoma X-cab, V6 5-speed. It had 96k when I got it and sold it last year at 125k. I needed more room so I now have ’02 Tundra access cab, V8 automatic with 102k miles.
All of theses trucks have been so solid. From great highway miles to 4x4ing in the mud and Colorado snow. Solid as they come. I just bought a ’95 X-cab, V6, 5-speed for our ranch. It has 240k miles on it. Just did the timing belt and tensioner pulleys and the motor is strong. The body is in great condition with no rust.
Typically on plugs, water pumps and timing belts, oil changes and air-filters. This is all that I have really had to do with any of my Toyota’s. (I have also had two Camry’s and an Avalon.) I stand by these vehicles and their reliability.
Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
Just sold my 98' Limited Tacoma (4x4, V6) yesterday with 206,000 miles on it, trouble free. It was a great, reliable truck even towed by Supra with it many times which weighed the same if not slightly more than the Tacoma. i'm hoping the 06' DC i just got will be as reliable for me.

Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?
Sadly my 00' Tacoma is not with me anymore, my insurance company decided to total it out cause so much money had already gone into the truck (2 previous wrecks with deer @ 55 miles and 60 miles no brakes). This time it was a rock, a really big one at that. I was on my way back home from the rig (Patterson in the oilfield) and my tool pusher ran me off the rig road, I blew my left tire and lost control of my truck which lead me to a boulder on the side of the dirt road.
My truck was bought in 03' with 91,000 miles on it....I had previously driven a 98' Toyota Camry with no issues, until a lady came around a corner in my lane and we had a bad head on collision (I dont have the best luck with front end damage...lol) I drove the damn thing (very hard at that, mud, rig roads, boulders, etc...) until it had right around 250,000 miles on it. The only major issue I ever had was the starter going out. Other than that I changed the oil and filter every 5K, kept Mobil 1 in it and the occasional tire change. I would have to say the funniest moment I ever had in that Tacoma was one day my bestfriends Ford Diesel tranny went out and I towed his *** about an hr down the road to where his buddy with a tow trailer was going to meet him. We drove a steady pace of about 55 - 60 miles an hour, my truck never looked back! lol
I now own an 02' Tundra which was bought with the insurance money from the Tacoma!
It had 89,100 miles on it when I bought it, had been sitting on the lot for over 200 days and well I would like to say I got it for a good deal, paid $8,000 for it out the door.
I have had it for a little less than a year now and it has 103,000 miles on it with no issues yet!
Here's a pic of my Tacoma, its the only one I got....
