I have a 2004 Tacoma with TRD & SR5 (color keyed) packages. It's an Xcab with V6 and 5-speed manual tranny. I put it into service on 6/4/04. I have done the deck plate mod, the ISR mod and put on an aftermarket Magnaflow muffler. I also have wet okole seat covers, a rhino lined bed and an ARE topper. It routinely pulls 20-22 mpg in mixed driving.

I have close to 60,000 miles on the odo without ANY real problems thus far. Just routine maintenance items (oil changes, clean air filter, tire rotation & balance and alignment). I still have the stock tires on it and am getting ready for some new ones.

This is the most relaible vehicle I have ever owned.

I have a 2003 doublecab V6 with TRD and SR5 package but I can't manage good MPG, recently I found out trough testing that the Deckplate Mod was killing my MPG, why? I don't know, but now I'm getting more miles, don't have the numbers yet but I estimate a 10% more maybe better...

What is ISR mod??

I've got an automatic 1995.5 Tacoma, extra cab, 4 x 4 with the 2.7 litre engine.

I am the second owner and haven't had any problems from 176,000 miles (when I bought the truck) to the 186,000 miles I have on it now.

The 2.7 litre engine is a four cylinder with a timing chain instead of a belt. The 3.4 litre engine is a v6 with a timing belt.

I've had both engines in the Toyota's that I've owned. I had a T100 with the V6 (bought it with 205,000 miles and didn't have any problems with it) and the Tacoma I presently own with the 2.7.

I will need new brake rotors very soon but that's normal maintenance. Other than that, no problems and why I can buy a Toyota with close to 200,000 miles without reservation (and a good inspection).

ISR = Intake Silencer Removal. Search for a writeup on TTORA and/or Yotatech.

As far as the deckplate job on your truck, did you reinstall everything correctly? I know it's an easy mod but....

Did you disconnect/reconnect the battery (flash the ecu)? If not, it takes the ecu time to reprogram itslef to accomodate the increased airflow. Otherwise, not sure.

I check my mileage religiously, and even put the deckplate back in for a stretch to see if it changed anything. Nope. Still about 18-20 mpg with the deckplate covered, and 20-22 with it open on my truck.

The only issue I have had with my Tacoma is that my thermostat went out. It only gave a check engine light.

'02 Prerunner, Extra Cab, 2.7, Auto, 120,000 miles.

Drove it off the lot, new, five years ago yesterday, and with the exception of the lower ball-joint replacement/recall two months ago, it has never visited a service bay.

Oh, and I still have tread on the ORIGINAL tires, and the spare has never touched the pavement.

BTW, a year ago I sold my '85 Toyota pickup to my brother-in-law, who already had an '85, but wanted a 2WD as well. At the time, it had 285,000 miles, and he's still driving it with the ORIGINAL clutch.

2.4 ltr. 4 cylinder 1999 2 wheel drive SR5 bought it used with 30,000 miles 6 years ago and now have 133,000. Just normal parts replaced: belts, plugs, brakes, tires, wires, oil changes, fuel filter and tires.

Absolute best vehicle I have ever owned. Runs as good as the day I bought it. Selling due to kids can't fit in the back of the extra cab, need 4 doors. Just bought the new Tacoma 4 door and can't wait to get it! I'll miss my ol reliable Tacoma though.

Bought a New '95 Taco V-6 4X4 Extra Cab (stick) in January '96. Just sold it a couple of months ago with 141,000 miles on it. Did the head gasket "recall"...not sure if it was a recall. I resisted the "notices" from my dealer for some time because I was not having any issues. Finally went in for the fix. Had no problems afterward.

Had broken leaves in the rear springs. Beyond warranty. Toyota did not respond. Their fix (at my expense) was expensive. So I went to a local Spring Shop and it was fixed at half the cost. Two years later, the rear springs on the Taco were redesigned.

No other issues. I got 27 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg on the highway towing a 3,000 pound boat through the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont.

I'm getting 22 mpg with my New '07 Taco V-6 4X4 Access Cab "automatic" on the highway...... Not towing yet.

New is nice, but I liked my old Taco. TacoGuy

I just bought (one week ago) a 2002 2.7L 4X4 SR5 5sp with 117519 on it. This was a one owner within 70 miles of where I live now. The first owner did all 7,500 man check-ups at a Toyota Service Center as it is stamped and signed in the passport book (one of the reason I bought it) from 0-to 120,000 check up. New set of Mich X LT 265/70R/16 and now problems yet. Is this model 3RZ-FE have the recall on the LBJ?
I hope to pull 300,000 out of it.

Okay..I dont mean to get off the subject but I am a Tacoma newbie and was wondering what this deckplate mod was? Still trying to figure out what kinds of mods can be made to a 2007 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4

Default Re: How many miles do you have on your Tacoma WITHOUT any problems?

The "deckplate" mod is a modification to the airbox on the 3.4L V6 engine. Basically you cut a 3-4" round hole in the front of the airbox and install a deck-plate.

What's a deck plate? It's a boating accessory that allows for a selectively covered hole in the deck of a boat. You screw the plate in when you want the hole covered and remove it when you want to (i.e. to wash down the deck, etc.)

It basically allows better/greater airflow into the throttle body and provides a very slight performance increase (if any). It does make the engine sound a bit louder though. It is effectively the same thing as installing a CAI but at a fraction of the cost. You cover the deck plate (close the airbox) for deep water crossings and dusty driving.

I don't think it is a mod for your 2007 Taco, as it has a different engine.
