1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Oversize rear sliding window available?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have a 2001 tundra access cab with standard rear sliding glass. I'd like to put my surfboard through the opened rear window, but it doesn't open wide enough. Does anyone make a wider version of the sliding rear window? The picture below shows the standard version.
you could always make a "direct fit" window with your surf board and a hammer lol

Nobody that I know of makes a larger opening for the rear window. That's not to say it's not possible to have one made (which would be ridiculously expensive) but it could be done. The glass just has to be the same dimensions that fit into the cab.
they have a power slider for the tundra $415.99 shipped. it's pretty sweet and i believe the opening is just a bit wider. maybe we can get a group buy if there's enough interest?? i've just spent close to $7k on my tundra fixn' her up. i'll need a month or 2 before i can buy one!!! just wait till i get my new pics up!!
I have often wondered why they started putting one smaller sliding window in the center of the back of pickups instead of the two smaller windows that split a larger opening and slid to each side. I wish they would have put that in the Tundra, I hate how small the opening is... I could come pretty close to fitting through the window in my old Tacoma, but not in my Tundra...
The 06 Double-cabs come with the entire back window opening or closing vertically. You probably saw a factory window. I am not sure how early they started doing it - I am guessing 05. The new 07 CrewMax has the same thing. As far as I know it is not an option for any other Tundra - must come standard as the back interior wall is designed for it. I must say as an owner of one it is one of my favorite features. The entire window also has a defroster in it as well. The only downfall is during the fall alot of leaves that fall in the back of the truck will come swirling in if you don't wait for them to blow out. (same goes for rain rolling off the roof - it will blow in) Other than that it is a fabulous way to get some air without getting blown around or drowned out in noise. Hope that helps.
I would love a kit for the whole windows to come down like the double cabs!
It could be done. How much work has to go into it I don't know, but I'm positive it can be done. If my truck was paid off and I had an extra DC window laying around, I'd be up for the challenge.
I have an 06 DC with the whole window down, its awesome, im sure you could get that done...I would start with Toyota or call an after market place and see if they know of someone...
i saw a tundra last week where the whole rear window slid vertically into the back of the cab.... to where no glass was visible
All 04-06 double cabs have this feature also the 07 crew max.Toyota has been putting this on the 4 runners for years I'm sure even the Sequoia has this feature.Gotta love the strange looks when people see you riding with that puppy down.
