If you have a Scan Gauge 2, please let me know where you mounted it and how. It would be great to see some pictures. I need to mount mine. Its been sitting in my ash tray for about a year!

I mounted mind right in front of the stereo cassette player, since I have never used it. I can still get to the other controls just fine. I would have done the same thing rhopf79 did but my Tom Tom sits so nicely in that spot.

[LEFT]After staring at my dash for several months, here is how I decided to install my Scan Gauge II.
No holes have to be drilled in your Tundra.
It's a real easy cable run from the OBD connector to the display unit.
You can knock this project out in under a hour.
Scan Gauge visibility is great from my seat height. All instrument cluster annunciator lights are visible.
Materials: 7 1/2 inches of 3/4" x 1/16" flat aluminum stock.
3 to 4 inches of 1" x 1/16" angle aluminum stock.
Two 1/8" aluminum pop rivets (or epoxy, 5200, or other adhesive).
Felt or plastic sticky backed pads
Velco
Tools: Hacksaw
Dremel with cutting wheel,
Vicegrips
File
Drill with 1/8" bit
Pop Riveter
Using your dremel or hacksaw, cut a 7 1/2 " length of flat aluminum stock (all measurements are approximate). Clean up the rough edges with your file as you go.
Point the drivers side A/C vent up. Slide the flat stock in the gap between the vent and the dash. On my 2000 model, There is a rib that is 3/4" above the bottom of the duct. With the vent pointed up you can slide your flat stock right into that gap beneath the rib. It should go in about 3" and not go past the vent shut off valve. (It fits like it was made to go there).
With the piece still in the vent, mark it where you want to make the bend.
Remove the piece and make a 90 degree bend.
Slide your piece back into the vent. You'll probably see that it kind of droops in relation to the instrument pod. Remove your piece and using the vice grips, put a little twist into the part that goes into the vent. Refit and check. Bend some more as necessary. About 10-15 degrees of twist should do it. DON'T TRY TO BEND IT IN THE DUCT. SOMETHING WILL BREAK.
Cut your 1" aluminum angle stock 3 to 4" in length. Take the angle piece,
3/4" flat piece, and your Scan Gauge. Dry fit them all together, marking where
you want the rivets to go, and where the notch on the back needs to be cut for the cable to plug into the Scan Gauge.
(Initially, I tried plugging into the end of the Scan Gauge but every time I adjusted the steering wheel, it bumped the SG cable & knocked the whole thing out of whack. Hence the notch).
Once everything is lined up to your satisfaction, clamp the two pieces together and drill two 1/8" holes and then rivet them together or, if using an adhesive, glue em, clamp em, and call it a day.
When the 2 parts are securely fastened together, take your handy dremel tool with cut off wheel
and cut out the notch for the rear cable plug. Fit and attach the velcro to the front face of the mount and the Scan Gauge.
(I used super industrial strength Velcro).
Stick some felt padding on the inside radius of the 90 degree bend to keep from chaffing a hole in your dash.
Run the cable up behind the lower dash panel and out the gap between the steering column and the dash.
Plug the cable in, slide the mount into the A/C vent under the rib and the and you're good to go!

Hispeed, I like that set up. I could still sit my TomTom in the middle of the cluster. Where I have mine it is hard to read in the daylight.

Velcro to the dash above the shift lever. I dremeled a notch in the instrument cluster & ran the cable through the dash to the connector.
I bought a BlendMount and mounted it beneath my rear view mirror, Mike reworked the mount so I could put it under the mirror instead of over it, I have hidden all the wires since the photo so none are visible

I tried the steering column...the SG obstructed my view of the instrument cluster.
I tried the ashtray...It took my eyes too far away from the road.
I tried the bottom of the rear view mirror... I didn't think there was enough cable to run to the OBD plug (How about more info Skipo?) And it distracted me seeing it hanging down there.

MGT provides the cable extension (I believe it is a network cable) to go from the mirror down the pillar to the plug, it was made to go over the mirror but I have the console and it wouldnt fit for me so Mike modified the mount to work under the mirror

Thanks to all of you for the input. I saw several good ideas but there is just not much room for this gadget. I think I like this idea the best but will wait a few days to see if anyone else comes forward with another idea. Skipo, can you tell me what was required to change it to the bottom. Did the dealer change the mount or was it someone you know?

they just made the cutout on the opposite side so I could flip the angle bracket over and not use extra extensions for the lenght to get below the mirror, it could be done with a dremel tool or something like that

hkiser,
The BlendMount designed for the ScanGauge ll will usually work on top of the rear view mirror. However, occasionally there is insufficent clearance on top of the mirror depending on the year and options of the truck. If you want to shoot me a couple of pics of your mirror, I will be able to tell you if you can mount on top of the mirror.

I will try to take some in a day or two, certainly by the weehend. I think it will fit on top but it will be tight. I like it above the mirror better. I think it will block my view too much on the bottom. Thanks for your help. Great idea by the way.
