I got the 100k platinum warranty for 50 bucks! How? I bought the truck used and the previous owner transferred it to me-- Good deal for me...
So has anyone used the free towing yet? I wonder if they are efficient and speedy with the towing service...

I used to buy the extended warranties but then I heard that it is usually just a waste of money. Since then I bet I have saved over $1000 by not getting them. Most household items have a 1year warranty on them and if there is a defect or something that wears out rather quickly it's going to happen during that initial warranty. So my answer is no I didn't buy it. Just my 2cents.

I got it. I think it's a 7year/75K toyota deal. Can't remember off hand. I did it because I plan on keeping the truck for at least 10-15 years. It was about a thousand dollars cheaper to get the 75K than the 100K. Since I don't put a lot of miles (just turned over 6K this week... truck is 8 months old) it made sense to me.

Exclamation Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?

A couple of things to keep in mind:
1) These are not warranties. We all call them that, but they're really mechanical failure insurance policies. Toyota Financial Services calls them "Extended Service Coverage." Because they're not warranties, the consumer (you & me) don't get the protection specified in the Magnuson-Moss Act http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...y/undermag.htm

2) As with every insurance policy, the policy is only as strong as the insurance company behind it. Some of the "extended warranty" policies are issued by strong insurance companies (including those sold through Toyota Finance), and some are issued by fly-by-night companies. Check out the underwriter before you buy.
3) Many dealers make more profit selling "extended warranties" from companies other than Toyota Financial Services. Be aware of who you're really doing business with.

4) As with any insurance policy, read the fine print (I know, borrrring). It will contain requirements for you to follow. If you can't prove that you followed the requirements, they won't pay. If they require you to have an oil change every x-miles, and you don't have the paperwork to prove it, they won't pay.

5) Get the policy paperwork before you pay. Read the fine print. Research the insurance company (your public library has resources). If you don't like what you read, don't pay.

I purchased the Toyota administered "Extra Care Gold" warranty, 7 years, 100k miles, for one reason. All of the TRD mods I am having my dealer apply will be warranted co-terminous with the extended warranty since it is administered by Toyota corporate.

I haven't purchased an extended warranty as of yet, and right now am 50/50 on that decision. While being the happy owner of two past very reliable, OK, BULLETPROOF Toyota trucks, I've never had one with power everything or an automatic transmission yet. I did own one 4x4 medium sized SUV type vehicle back in 1986 that had nothing but problems with the auto windows, locks, a couple of tracker (fwd anti sway) bars, the air conditioning unit, a couple water pumps, etc. By the way, we nicknamed this SUV a "Gyp" and I'll leave that at that. The 50,000 extended warranty was the best investment we ever made on that car. After we sold that (to a mechanic, so I didn't feel like we "unloaded" it, he had all the service records), we bought a Mazda MPV with an extended warranty. That warranty did not pay for itself in that the only thing that went out on it before 70,000 miles was the water pump. So that's why I'm a little torn. I have experienced the quality in Toyota and Mazda, and I also know that a lot of money is made by the comapanies selling these warranties. So is it cheap insurance, I dunno. I would think that cheap insurance would also be to buy a winch and winch bumper for $2,000 if you offroad in some rough areas, too. Does anyone know how long you can wait to decide to purchase an extended warranty? I had heard that you can purchase one as long as the factory warranty is still current (3yrs/36,000 miles).

Gonna buy mine towards the end of the 3 year manufactor's warranty. I can't afford one right now, but the dealership said they would be able to offer me one towards the end. Problem...probably going to be full price. Any of you know if I can buy a warranty from any dealership towards the end? This dealership claims they are the only one in Sac, CA that does this.

I bought an extended warranty on my 95 Nissan pickup (100,000 mile) and never used it for a repair. With the Tundra, I figured that I would just be wasting my money. It is a Toyota; Right?

I opted for the Platinum. I think the main reason why I got it was because the dealer mentined how much it would cost to replace one of the computers.

Be sure your Platinum Warranty is really from Toyota. They slipped on on me last week that had tons of loopholes. So many loopholes that I had a hard time figuring out what it *would* actually cover. You had to call and wait for authorization for any repair could be done by toyota. That right there was enough to turn me off as my dad went thru that with an S10. You see he had transmission problems (which was supposed to be covered) but the trick they used was simply to stall. Gm dealer would call for authorization and they simply would never show up and would only say that we had to wait . Well over a month went by and still no show. GM dealer said they would just fix it and eat it if warrenty company balked, which of course they did saying that we did not follow policy by repairing the truck without authorization. My dad had already paid a 25.00 deductable and wanted it returned but they refused. To make a long story short, he turned the company in to our state attorney general's office and they got all of my dad's money back and then put the company out of business. This took about 2 years but it was worth it to my dad. I saw the same thing with coming with this tundra so I checked usenet and found that every message I read the same: The company found an excuse everytime to deny the claim no matter what. Every message was a warning not to buy into it so thats all I needed to know and took it back the next day. So be sure you have a legitmate warrenty if thats the way you want to go. By legitmate I mean by Toyota USA not South Eastern toyota under a assumed name.

Hey Waser, I had to dig through my file cabnet for my paperwork. Actually, I have the platinum plan but its for 6/75k w/ $0 deductible for $825. BTW I had to drive all the way out to Libertyville, IL for my truck.
