My general negotiation practice on extended warranties is this: "If your product is so unreliable that you really feel I need an extended warranty, please cancel the sale." I can get a Chevy or a Ford for less than a comparable Toyota or Lexus. I'm willing to pay a premium for quality, not warranty. I've bought nearly a dozen new Toyota or Lexus models over the last twenty years. Never had a substantial warranty claim. In fact, I feel the most worthless thing about Toyota is the warranty. It just sits in the glove box. No additional "field assembly" is usually required.

If you are going to spend money for a warranty, then look at Gold Warranty. It covers everything (including wear and tear items). My dealer thinks it's the best thing out there and he does'nt even sell them. A couple of friends have bought them and I am very impressed by what they cover. The cost is also pretty good. Another + feature is lets say you want a 7 year 75,000 mile warranty. The 7 years and 75,000 is from the time you buy the warranty. Not in-service date. Take a look at it. Ask your dealer if they except it and go from there. No ,I do not have an extended warranty at this point. But if I do go buy one, then Gold will be it.

Have you guys found out any more info on where to get the toyota extended care warranty? I would like to buy one from an outside the se region type dealer. Did you check with Carson? Or does anyone else have ideas? It would be nice to also find out prices for all the warranty plans 7/100,000 and so on. thanks todd
I think you should be able to buy that warranty from most any dealer outside of the Southeast. Toyota of Iowa City has a great specialty site on Toyota Warranties that you may want to check out.
I don't work there, but I have lost warranty purchases to them.
Originally posted by TD I bought my warranty through Iowa city Toyota. Just go to ToyotaWarranty.com. They were by far the cheapest. I bought the Platinum 7 year/100,000 mile warranty for $1070.
TD,
Did they explain whether your coverage is an additional 7 years/100,000 miles or if both the years and miles count from the original date of purchase?
I didn't buy a warranty thru Toyota, but when I was looking into it, I'd say that most everyone offers their warranties based on the original in-servie date and they start from 0 mileage. So 7yrs/100k miles is the total, not additional. I may be wrong, but it would be rare for a warranty that covers just about everything, and only cost about $1000, to be good for 10 years and 136k miles.
On a side note, it's sad that Toyota doesn't offer a 7 yr/70k or higher powertrain and drivetrain warranty like Dodge and a lot of others do now. Heck, even Hyundai does the 10yr/100k plan! What's up Toyota???

I definitely see your point, but several years ago I was researching an aftermarket warranty and they were selling coverage from when you purchased the warranty. Of course, their pricing reflected the current year of your vehicle and your current mileage... Not sure if that is still available.

Upon doing some more homework I have found a good cheap dealer to get the warranty from. I am actually buying my odyssey warranty from them also since the southeastern honda dealers apparently have the same setup with a third party like se toyota. I don't want to post it and get in trouble. I am not trying to sell, I am just trying to help out fellow southeastern people. I am getting the 6/100,000 toyota extra care platinum referred to below for $765.00 with $0 deductible. She said she will sell them $50.00 over cost (not sure about that) but this is still better for me than buying a $2000.00 warranty from Fidelity since I live in the south. I will post her info if it is needed and ok. thanks todd
The name is Kim Free 1-877-476-4265 ext 8112 The place is Pohanka Automotive Group. She will quote you price and you can ask her for info to ensure for yourself that it is a Toyota Warranty. you may want to tell her you saw it here as she said it would be 50.00 over cost for us. like I said this was the best deal I could find, I'm not trying to steal anyones thunder. thanks todd
