Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
One thing I believe we all have in common is that we all purchased our Tundras because of Toyota's world class quality and reputation for longevity. Given that, does it make a whole lot of sense to purchase an extended warranty for a Tundra (and why)?
The thread, "How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?" has been merged with the thread, "Toyota Extended Warranty" as they are the same subject. ~MS
Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
I got extend wrnty for 6yr/100,000 I think of it more as insurance for $15 month for time frame that I'm making payment on my Tundra. I plan on hopefully never using it. But its safely in the glove box if I get stuck in BFE or just down the street.
Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
I also got the 6/100,000 Platinum Warranty from Toyota. As Tundra-gearhead said I also view it as a cheap insurance policy. PLUS if I sell the truck before its up I get some of it back. May never need it but IF I ever do it will pay for itself. I'm quit sure there are varying opinions on this subject.

I HAVE THE 10 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRENTY ON MINE FROM OUR CREDIT UNION AND BEET S TOYOTA WARRENTY TO THE TEE ON COVERAGE FROM 3 YEAR 36,000 AND POWERTRAIN OF 6 YEARS 60,000
Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
Bought the Tundra because of the great reliability I have had with my other 3 Toyotas. I wasn't going to chicken out and get the warranty. So far on all my other trucks I am ahead by not getting the warranty. I'm sure that this truck will be the same.

Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
Well they sort of tricked me into the extended warrenty (a good story for another day) but I took it back. They did everything they could to talk me out of it including calling me stupid...letting me know I would not get a refund till I paid off the loan, etc. I looked at the warrenty and it was riddled with loopholes. I then got on usenet and saw nothing but complaints 10 out of 10 said they did not honor the warrenty. The thing is , if it had been a real factory warrenty I may have gone for it, but it was under the name of a holding company for the distributor..sigh..when will these guys learn.
Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
I, too, have the Platinum factory warranty. It IS cheap insurance. The company has had a great reputation for quality of product, however, if one or a few Tundras end up with problems and one of them happens to be mine, I'd like it covered. It would be little consolation to me that this only happens to one in 10,000 vehicles if mine happened to be that one!!

Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
I agree that extended warranties are good, cheap insurance for the "what if" problems we may/may not encounter, but I'm not going to (didn't) buy one for my Tundra. Toyotas are too d-amn reliable to wager that kind of money against, so I'll take my chances. I paid $1200 for a Ford extended care warranty (6 yr/75k miles bumper-to-bumper) on a Contour I owned previously and never once used it. I guess I'm counting on the same kind of success with my Tundra, so I won't be paying Toyota any more than I have to excluding my monthlies. If you do get a extended warranty, though, my advice is to buy it directly from Toyota. Don't get anything from a 3rd-party vendor or through the dealer!
Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
This is an easy question to answer, because every vehicle manufacturer is fallible in the products they make. I’m not going to let some over-confident personal bravado “Heck no I didn’t get the warranty because it’s a Toyota” prevent me from paying for extra insurance.
Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
I purchased the truck based on Tundra's and Toyota's reliability, but I did purchase a 7 year/70,000 mile contract at the end of the haggling. Cost $600 but will save aggravation if ever needed. The way my luck runs, If I didn't have it I'd come out some morning and find the engine laying on the ground.

I'm not at home, so I can't pull my paperwork up but I seem to remember it being around $1100-1400. For the Toyota Platinum. Costs are gonna vary from others as this is a haggle your way down to an agreeable price type thing.
BTW you can go to any Toyota dealership and buy one, doesn't have to come from who you bought your truck from. So call around and get quotes.

Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
I got an extended warrenty so that I would never have to use it.
Everytime I get an extended warrenty I never need it.
Everytime I do NOT get an extended warrenty I end up wishing I had.
Re: Poll >>>>> How many of us have extended warranties (and why)?
Got the official Toyota extended warranty. I plan on keeping the truck for 10+ years. If I were going to trade it or sell it within the original warranty period I would not have. I hope I never use it but if I do then that is why I purchased it.
