Default Blowing Fuses, Please Help!

I am installing a Power Acoustik overhead DVD/TV LCD combo in my 02 AC.

For power, I have tapped into one of the power outlets, using the green wire as ground and white wire as 12v.

The unit has a noise filter with black and red wires coming out both sides, with a fuse inside. This fuse is 250V 5A and it keeps blowing. There is a sticker on the inside of this box that says 250V 10A.

I sent an email to tech support at Power Acoustik, and they responded that a 5A 250V fuse was required.

Can someone please give me some diagnostic help in figuring out why this keeps blowing fuses? Thanks.

Did you test the wires before you tied into them?

Yes, they worked just fine. I found some more 5A 250V fuses and went right to the battery and ground. The player worked just fine, so now I just need to figure out how to run a switched power wire. I'm not sure why it is blowing using the outlet wiring but it still is. Put all of the outlet wiring back together and they are working fine charging phone.

YOU ARE BACKWARDS according to my service manual GREEN is +12v and WHITE/BLACK stripe is ground. Remember this is DC vehicle wiring not AC house wiring so green is not automatically ground. In fact, never assume any standard colors ( all OEMs use varying colors, so always use a volt/ohmeter or a schematic) One other tip you can use on these power outlets is .. the center terminal will be + and the outer shell connection will be -

I made a mistake and ASSUMED the white wire was hot because it connected to the larger of the metal prongs, which also has +12V stamped on it. That was how I decided to use the white as power and green as ground.

I appreciate you looking it up, and in fact wonder if the reason it works with my inverter is because maybe I have that backwards too. What I did a while ago, to use a laptop to watch movies, was splice into that same outlet. I then ran wiring under the carpet to under the back seat where I put the female end of a power outlet on, which then received the inverter.

I almost bought a volt meter today, perhaps I should do that before embarking on another project like this!

Thanks again for looking into this for me.

No problem, not sure why the +12v marking would have been stamped there, shouldn't be. Anyway, a voltmeter would be a good investment, can be used to save you some time and money finding problems.
