1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "My DC turned 100K this morning!", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Wow.....milage flies when you're having fun.....
So far my truck has cost me about $4000.00 since I bought it new....not including gas or insurance (of course!)
Here's my break down:
$900 in 21 engine oil and filter changes
$80 in 3 spark plug changes
$310 in all other oils changed or replaced with Syn where possible
$1200 in tires and alignments (replaced the stock junkers with Revos then those with Terra Grapplers)
$1400 in "accessories" (Magnaflo exhaust, UNICHIP, XM radio, floor mats, TruFlo intake, reprogram the UNICHIP)
$200 in actual "repair parts" (tail gate hindges, gas cap and filler pipe)
I guess that's not too bad for three years worth of service.
My favorite number is the actual repair parts cost....200 bucks and I could've lived with the bad hindges (40 bucks )
Good job Toyota!

Wow,100k on your 2004!!! I've got some ground to make up, I'm just about to turn 16k on my 04 AC. Glad to hear that you've been buying extras to make the ride even better.

oh no, now everything is going to break down! haha, yeah right, i agree with people here, why buy it if you not gonna drive it? i currently have about 34K on my '05. besides, driving it everyday is probably better than letting it sit in a garage all week.

My DC is getting close to 30,000 so I need to start thinking about changing the plugs. What kind did you put in? Did you change them yourself?
I used the NGK Platinum Tip ones the first change and it idled bad...I found out they are very easy to mess up the tips on when you gap them...and they are already pre-set from the NGK factory (I didn't know that...duh.) I have since changed them with the standard plugs from Toyota...they are inexspensive and changing them is almost fun....it's very easy. Dis-connect the coils from the harness, remove the coils...take out the plugs....put the new ones in. Replace all the coils, etc. Nothing to it! Use some anti-sieze on the new plug threads and you're set for another 30K at least.

The buy it and not drive it lesson is the Ram Srt 10 QC I just traded for the Tundra DC.
Could not afford to drive the QC 10 at 8mpg city and 12mpg freeway even if it was fast for a Truck so it set in the driveway and I made payments on it until I could not stand to look at it anymore no matter how cool everyone else thought it was. Lesson learned and only cost me $10k for that one.
Already much happier with the Tundra cause it rides and drives a lot better and the power is not that bad either + 50% to 75% better mileage
Heck, I might be able to afford to drive this one!
I thought you didn't have to change spark plugs in the tundra to around 60k miles, if it is 30k I need to put that on the top of my to-do list!
looks like you have an 06 tundra. 05 and up tundra's have iridium plugs which does not need to be replaced until 120K. if you are going to be replacing plugs in your 06, it will be a waster of money. but pre 05 tundra's just have standard plugs which you change out at 30K.
