1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "light bar", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
i need some better lighting and was wondering what you guys have done to mount extra light to your trucks.
i was really wondering if any of you took out the little chrome strip off your bumper (for 03 models +) and were able to use those holes to mount on a light bar or just lights directly.
also have any of you used the existing grill to somehow mounts the lights or put lights behind a billet grill?
i dont really want anything fancy like a huge brush gaurd or aftermarket bumper but just want something that looks clean and get a few ideas.
something like the "lamp stay 2" at Welcome to Jaos
but it says it doest work on 03's? does anyone know how these mount to the bumper?
defiant truck products makes a sick light bar, im buying it for mine!

defiant looks awesome, after doing a search and reading about it i still have a few questions,
so it is ajustable so you can move it closer to the bumper?
-how does it mount behind the bumper?
why is everyone getting only 3 lights?
-what does it look like with four lights? it doesnt block the main headlights does it?
can you get it in different colors besides black/chrome from the dealer?
-i noticed someone had it in silver and wanted to get it in phantom grey(or dark grey)
Tundrainorange's light bar shows how well the Defiant integrates with the Tundra front end. The Defiant is by far the most clean install of all the light bars in my opinion.
Quiet a few of us early Tundra owners specifically 2000-2003 would love to have this light bar but Paul has not been able to get a donor vehicle for a test fit.
Here is a pic of the holes under the chrome strip. I see no way to use these to mount lights and have it look nice and clean.
A while ago there was a post of a grille with the lights molded in. I believe it was a Ivan stewart red truck. PLUS user Bajabanshee mounted 2 lights behind the grille with a custom grille. You could do that with a Nice Billet grille.
The Defiant bar looks really nice. But I think if the truck was not lifted it may not look right. The key is to get the lights up as high as possible (so the light can go further) But keeping them below the stock headlights (Legal reasons). On my F150 they were mounted a little low and the light pattern was not reaching out as far as it should have.

arent the 03's the same as all the other access cabs? mine looks the same on the outside anyways...

thanks for the feedback
My truck has the first prototype bar on it which I drilled 2 more holes to push it further back in. The newer bars are closer than the first gen bars, paul had them changed shortley after.
The reason for 3 lights is that it just fits right on the tundra...aka new style...lol
I think you can get the bar special powder coated for a little extra. Talk to Paul he will tell you everything you need to know.

Does the difiant bar moun to the bumper or frame. I have a 3" body lift and would need a bumper option. I also have a 2002 and may be out of luck.
