1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Trany shifting", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Good day everyone, I noticed the other day that my 05 DC was hesitating shifting to forth and then overdrive, first drive in the morning. It just seems to hang there and not shift entering the highway. so i let off the gas and then on the pedal again, After a couple of seconds it shifts....... then never again for the rest of the day. Is this something to worry about? I have 37400 miles on my truck.
thanks, Dave

My guess is that your truck has done that since the day you bought it. The ECU maintains lower transmission gearing, which produces higher engine rpms, to get the engine up to operating temperatures as quickly as possible so the air-fuel mixture can be leaned out ... as soon as the thermostat opens, the ECU leans the mixture and lets the transmission kick into higher gearing. If your truck has a temperature gauge, watch the transmission upshift as the temperture needle passes a certain point each morning. And watch the road, too.
Mine does the same the when it's cold going into fourth , but it is the opposite for 2nd and 3rd , it won't hold rpms and shifts hard until warms up , pretty irritating.
The trany seems fine it's the rods that snap. Toyota stopped making the superchargers for the 4.7 I believe. My truck shifts like this as well, it is normal she is cold but once she's hot look out.....
That's ironic as I have a service appt. tomorrow for an oil change, and I was going to have them check the slipping between 3-4 on the first trip down the road in the morning. Figured I would check here to see if anone else was having the problem.
