1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Intake installed :D", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
just finished my installation of the AFE stage 2 cold air intake, and it sounds amazing! i love the new sound and power of my truck.
installing it was pretty simple no real knownledge of cars needed, took my first test drive around the idle sound had a more aggressive tone, then acceleration sounds amazing sounds like a installed a full exhauast system, took a little trip around town in the rain. even with wet pavement my acceleration is fantastic pics to come

Sound is nice, but does it actually perform better?
All a man really needs for happiness in this world is a good woman, a faithful dog, and a big-a$$ed set of tires on his truck.

butt dyno always says yes because you are not used to the "power" (the noise). i have to say that you have lost some low end power. if you don't tow, you won't know. i agree that it sounds nice though.

But the manufacturer says up to 35 hp increase?
Don't they?
They wouldn't lie to me.
Would they?
Why would they lie?
They have nothing to gain.
Do they?
Corvette forum,Srt10 forum, VTOC, etc almost none of these things work and if it is not a true Cold air with an enclosure (which won't be that loud) you will be guaranteed to lose power due to the heat generated under the hood that the engine will be forced to breath.
Cold dense air increases power, hot air decreases it.
Sorry just a universal truth.
Enjoy the sound cause they do sound mean but don't let it fool you into lining up against a Viper or something.

My "cold air intake" by K&N is in a enclosed box thing under the hood. Its not out in the open. So does mine kick azz? No really I have heard 50/50 opinions on this. All I can say is when I installed mine along with a Flowmaster system it seemed to pony up nicely and do better on hills. I have never have to buy a filter either, I just clean it every six months and throw it back in. Simple and easy. I can't say anything negative. But who knows..
Just how cold does the cold air coming into the intake have to be to be considered COLD?
I have a ScanGuage II installed and on the engine, I have the AEM Brute Force Intake. During stop and go traffic, my intake air temp (according to the ScanGuage) goes up but never within 70' of the water temp. On the Interstate, the IA is about 2' cooler than the outside air.
So... does the cold air intake work or not? Dyno? Haven't found one in my area.

I had a K&N CAI on my 2000 Tundra, and I never had it Dyno'd, but it definately helped with highway passing. Off the line, I don't know or care about. But passing some Buick who is in the left lane clogging up traffic....that matters.

keeping dirt and contaminants out of the engine is what matters to me, which is the major downfall of k&n
Very true statement that is why I chose the True flow.Had K&n previously and from my experience true flow filters better.Have heard good things and AFE also.
