Default 06 Tundra - Water flowing over the windshield when driving in big puddles...

I wanted to see if anyone else has this issue or if it is just me with the type of tires I have.

I have an 06 Toyota Tundra DC with 20" low profile wide tires. When driving along and I hit a big puddle, the water seems to come up and over the hood and windshield making it impossible to see even with the windshield. I find this very dangerous.

Could this be because of the wide tires or do other people have this problem?

Burleigh

My F150 was worse than my 07 Tundra. Not sure about the 06 Tundra. You may want to post this question on the Gen-1 forum.

I had this happen to me several times. It seems with the right wind, puddle and speed this can occur. When it does, it can be a bit alarming especially if in cornering. You almost have to put your brakes on since you can't see. I have a small flap in front of the wheel well and often wondered if this was to prevent this. As for speed, it happens at lower speeds 20-40mph.

Does it happen to occur to you all that you simply had to turn your wipers on prior to attacking the puddle?

Not to be stupid or anything but it sounds a little silly to be complaining about something as simple as puddle meets windshield.

Sanosuke!

I was just acknowledging then stating what has happened to me. Not complaining. My point is this doesn't always happen. Yes, I suppose I could put my wipers on with full sun and 100 degree weather when approaching every puddle. Thanks for the advice.

I am not usually going fast. Around 20 - 40mph. I have the wipers on, but it just seems more water is flowing up and onto the truck than away from the truck like I'd expect (like in a car).

I myself have the same problem with my 08. I'm a Toyota Tech and it is absolutely ridiculous how bad this problem is. Big puddles, little puddles, slow, fast, cornering, cant see S#!T. All the technology and something stupid can ruin the truck. I've tried taking the mud flaps off, next is the splash shield. Any other suggestions??? STUPID STUPID STUPID. Its got to a point where I almost want to Lemon it!

same here. 05 DC. 5100's set on top notch, 265/75/16's and the water splashes over the wheel well and onto the windshield. no biggie for me though, i expect it so i only do it when there is no cars in front.

i get this once in a while as it hardly rains where i live. it only started after i installed 9" wide rims and 285s. the tires stick out beyond the fenders. not enough to be ugly but plenty enough to be mr. splish splash. i ripped my mudflaps off the day i got my truck. i guess it depends what the offset of your rims is but if guys with oem rims are doing it maybe your truck likes wet tshirt contests.

The wider tires will displace more water in the puddle hence throwing more water in the air in front of the truck. like throwing a big rock in a lake compared to a small one, the larger rock is always going to have a bigger splash. Since the tundras have the front tires pretty close to the front of the truck and not much of a front bumper there is not much to stop the water from going up in the air in front of the truck, then if you lift the truck or put larger tires on that angle from where tire hits the ground to the front of the bumper increases allowing more water to go higher. i included a little diagram.
