Whilst inspired I went ahead and dropped into Best Buy where I found the RJ45 in-line cable joiner I needed for the extension cable. With about 30 minutes work, I pulled down the overhead console, removed the blank, and fabricated a 'V-shaped bracket' to affix the SGII to the overhead console in a somewhat downward orientation, centered in the opening.
The existing wire routing hole in the headliner was positioned in just the right place to allow the RJ45 cable to be wired into the back of the SGII for a tidy installation. I covered the right-side data port with a small square of black hook/loop fastener material to hide it from view.
I thought about carving-up the blank to create a custom-fit surround but decided the open cavity with the SGII sitting in it would probably look less kluggy than a carved-up surround. Moreover, in the event we ever sell the Tundra it would be one-less part to chase down to put it back to stock condition.
The only less-than-ideal thing about placing the SGII dead center is the LED display has a very narrow field of view so it took a bit of doing to find the right color backlighting to make it clearly visible in daylight when sitting upright in the driver's seat. Learning over to the right (which is how I tend to drive anyway) provides a very clear view of the displays. The reach to the buttons is also pretty good... remembering it's best not to fiddle around with these things when driving. So, perhaps pretty good is better than close-at-hand if only for that reason.
Photos of the finished product; sorry about not taking any in-process photos. Just didnt' dawn on me to do so until I was tucking the cables back up under the dash.

Re: Scangauge II Install (so easy a caveman could do it)
OK guys help me out here. Why must I have this gauge? Need help on selling the idea. Is it just another gauge that you never really uses? Or is just the ticket to save money now that gas is over $4.00 a gallon. (Have to save 40 gallons of gas to cover the cost). What other things can you do with it to help sell the idea of spending money that should probably go toward food or shelter or some other non-necessity of life. There must be some really good reasons you'll bought one, share so I can get one too. (Then of course I'll be back with all the question on why mine does not do what yours does) Also where is the best place to get one?
Forgot to ask, Just how accurate is this thing?
Re: Scangauge II Install (so easy a caveman could do it)
The Scanguage will tell you the air temp. and coolant temp. of your engine along with many other data.
The Key feature to me is the INSTANT MILEAGE and TODAY's Mileage. If you pay attention a bit you can gain a fair amount and improve your mileage ( mine went from 14/15 mpg to 17 around town ). Not earth shattering but significant nonetheless.
The Scangauge will also read your ECU codes, which is very important as well as clear the codes as well.

+1
But you forgot a few things...
Based on your Engine Size and Fuel Tank capacity, you can read instantly:
MPH
Corrected MPH for tire size
RPM
MPG
Crank HorsePower
Fuel cost per mile
Fuel cost per hour
Fuel cost per day
Gallons per hour
Gallons per day
Gallons til empty
Hours til empty
Max RPM per day
Max coolant temp per day
O2 sensor readings
Air Intake Temp
Engine Coolant Temp
and you can convert it all to Celsius if you prefer.

I've only had mine for a day but as far as I know, its pretty damn accurate. As for saving gas, based on 15000 miles per year, a 1 gpm increase in mileage will save you about 50 gallons in one year. Good enough for ya? It also has these trip functions:

Andy,
yep but real MPG is proven date meaning how true are the reading's on this for someone who has this on there Tundra vs what people tend to beleive?Usually on aftermarket product's the degree on being true on date is subjective on who you talk with esp when it comes down to some ECU based product's. Take for example the Speed pulse wire used for Navigation is slighly off on it's reading's (raised trucks might have some neg result's on being true)

Re: Scangauge II Install (so easy a caveman could do it)
You really need to do some homework before you start speculating on this thing ERik. It plugs into your OBDII port. All the rest is easily found from the search button or the manufacturer website. There are a dozen threads on it, AND I've posted the manufacturer's install instructions in the Member Mods Install forum for paid subscribers to see.
