Default loosening coolant drain nut

What methods have you used to loosen the drain nut on the driver's side of the engine? I tried going from underneath using about 18 inches of extensions on a socket and was not able to get a square fit on the nut. It is possible to use a stubby wrench going from the top?

Good question, I'm planning on doing mine this week. I'll let you know once I finish.

I change my hoses and coolant at the same time. So I drain mine from the hose.

If you are talking about the V8, there are two plugs to drain the block and one for the radiator. Each drain on the block has a spigot for you to attach a 5/8 internal diameter hose onto to minimize coolant spilling. Then, you use a 10mm socket and loosen the nut to allow the coolant to drain through the spigot. You don't need to take the whole nut out. Even after fully draining both sides and radiator, I still didn't get all 13 quarts out of the system.

There was already Super Long Life (pink) coolant in mine, so I refilled with new pink. Check if you have the Super Long Life (pink) or the Long Life (red) and stick with the same coolant.
