Default knock sensor and no overdrive?

hi, i too had the check engine light come on and was told its a knock sensor causing the problem, i now have no overdrive as a result , waiting for the part to come in (very slow, say they can't even locate one), are the wires going to the knock sensor out in the open somewhere, i looked in the dark with a flash light and can see what looks like a mouse nest built under that plastic cover (not sure what you call it) on top of the engine, are the wires underneath there, i'm thinking mice chewed a wire off thats why i wonder if they are in the open, any one know for sure, also is that plastic cover very involved in taking off in case its just a chewed wire thought i could take a look, thanks for any help.

ps: would a knock sensor from an earlier tundra sy 05 fit an 06, are they the same?

To answer your last question first, they should , but the easiest way to tell is have your dealership give you a part number from '05 and '06.

You have 2 knock sensors, located under the intake manifold ( one in each head). I haven't heard of a knock sensor going bad, and that probably is why the dealership does'nt stock one or two, it is most likely not problem part.

The chewed wiring may very well be an issue, best to remove the cover and take a closer look. Either a broken or shorted knock sensor wire will cause a problem. I would attempt to correct any wiring problems first as changing the knock sensors require the intake removal. As far as overdrive being affected ? my guess would be since OD can cause engine lugging in some situations, the ECM is taking measures to avoid cases of ping that cannot now be corrected for with non fuctioning knock sensors.

thanks for replying, i had a closer look at that cover earlier today and there are a lot of cables, wires etc attached to it, any idea if it splits in half when removing or do you need to remove bolts that attach it to the engine?
