I have a rusty framed 2000 Tundra. 2nd owner and its spent its whole life in the the salt/snow belt of WI. Should I begin cleaning up the rust and undercoating it or call that 1-800 number and complain about the condition of my scaley rusty frame? What if they don't do anything? The more I read about others problems the more I want mine to last until my 10 yr old can drive it. I have owned three Toyota and plan on buying more in the future so right now they have the owner loyality thing with me. Any comments?
i would recommend trying to take care of it on your own and if you rinse the underside off good once in a while it will greatly help. i rinse mine off but i don't live anywhere at risk for rust and there are flash floods we drive through all through the monsoon season however we dont ever have SALT on the roads so rinsing it is a good idea :P
EDIT: but that depends on how bad it is already i can't say if its past the point of just being able to take care of it then your going to have to find another solution

I have 2001 Tundra with 0 rust issues and 335,000 miles on it. My truck drove to Alaska more then several times. Only reason I say that you have corolla S (cause wheel covers come only on S model)

Thanks for the advice. I don't have any hole in the frame, but alot of rust scale that can be scraped off and I have 2 quarts of POR-15 ready to go. I will try to lift the truck box off so I can get at all the hidden spots. Anyone want to lend a hand? Will cook steaks for ya if you visit. :-)
ha ha i figured because when i use to drive my moms car i may have hit a curb and destroyed one of the wheel covers and Toyota wanted 75 dollars for the one...so i bought those 4 brand new on ebay for 35 (free shipping) got them in 2 days and they are OEM.... just not for her car but they look better :P (however once my mom gives my sister the car we are going to add spoiler, S body kit....etc etc...)(which sucks my sister gets my moms car....i had to buy one??!?)

I live in Wisconsin also and have a 00 that I would like to pass on to my boy in 10 years. I would call and register a complaint with toyota, I did and my truck sounds like yours, no holes just a lot of scaling that hopefully I can keep in check. It can't hurt to get a complaint number because if Toyota does anything then you are set. Good luck with the POR-15, I wish I could help but am pretty busy all the time.
By the way you might get someone to bite if you switched those steaks a cold fermented beverage.
You gotta admit, living in Arizona might have something to do with it.
yea i know i was just pointing out how it SHOULD look so if you guys wanted to compare and to rub it in a little.....:P

So I just talked to the finance manager of my purchasing dealer and was talking to him about my extended warranty coverage for rust. He said that there already was a recall for both Tacomas AND Tundras and that he knew someone in Milford who had every rusty component replaced for free with the exception of the exhaust. I told him I already called the 800 number and was told in was still in the investigation stage.
He is calling Toyota for me to check it out. I am waiting to hear back, maybe Toyota is really trying to not deal with this because of the $7.7 Billion loss this last quarter? I am hoping to hear some good news from my man.
