I have called some dealers in my area and they all say they have heard nothing of Tundra rust problems. I find it strange that people on this board have been getting info from there dealers that is diff than the dealers in norther Maine. I just wish I could get a answer from Toyota. I am going to trade the truck if they are not going to do anything. I dont want to trade if they are going to fix the frame.
I too live in Maine ... was by my local Toyota dealer about a week ago (Lee Toyota .. Topsham) and noticed two new full frames on pallets out behind their shop. I asked the service manager - he said they were for Tacoma's. I asked had they seen Tundra problems, and without hesitation he told me that their dealership had seen "at least five" Tundra's that would not pass state inspection & could not be driven due to frame rust.
I have to think Toyota will be FORCED to deal with this frame rust issue in the very near future.
The dealer I talked to told me they were replacing frames on Tacomas on up to and including the 05's. They said they expected toyota to do the same thing on the tundras pretty soon. They said the majority of the bad ones they have seen are 00's and 01's.

I do not have the rust issue, but, following this problem closely. I do wonder WHY
Toyota is waiting so long to put this on the table and deal with it. The early First Gens in the snow states are certainly showing up with the problem, especially with some that cannot pass inspection.

Not real sure. But I was glad to see that clip of a Boston news station covering the issue. Sad to say, but media exposure like that is what will drive them to react ... trying to save the reputation of these trucks.
My service dealer remarked to me that there was a lot of rust on the frame 1 year after I purchased the vehicle. I also need the brakes replaced in early 2007. I told him maybe it was the sprinklers on my lawn. :-) Service Manager shrugged his shoulders. I should have asked him to put that in writing on the comments section of the oil change receipt.
My 2000 Tundra TRD V8 is only used on weekends (sparingly) and only has 16K miles. I purchased it in Aug 2000.
But yes, there is a lot of rust on the frame.

Wow! Only 16K miles, I thought I was low miles at 23K!! I presume she does get used in the "salt" months during the winter?
It is stored outside? Curious on what yours looks like. Post a pic if you can.

I called Toyota again monday and asked what if anything has been going on about this. I got the "we are looking into it" talk. The next day the same guy I talked to called me and talked to me about my Tundra, He said to call back in a couple of weeks. He said that there should be something happening soon.....we will see. Today a guy from the NHTSA called me and asked a bunch of stuff...again we will see. Anyone else have any info on this?
