So the question begs to be asked: Is Toyota waiting for the stimulus pkg to run it's course before taking action? Those that are traded as clunkers will not be eligible for recall.
You are kidding I trust?
This issue has been building for at least 2 years! It didn't just happen.
I'd say they are looking at each case, where they are located in the US, looking at how the frames were manufactured, etc, as well as figuring what type of exposure they have because of this - both in $$ as well as dings in their reputation armour. Many, many things at work here.

Agree with your points.

Has nothing to do with clunker program. Much bigger issue at stake for Toyota here. I keep saying, does not affect me, but, I want Toyota to do the right thing and get this off the table and settled. The longer they wait, the more possible damage to reputation. Toyota is still #4 in sales and only about a 6% market share right now after 10 years in the 1/2T market. A full blown issue with NHTSB will not help at all for future sales, IMO.

If I were you, I'd get to a dealer to have them look at it, as well as report it to the NHTSB. You need to be on record as an owner with a problem when the solution is reached.
Call Toyota Customer Service at 1-800-331-4331. Have the 17 digit VIN# of your vehicle handy. Tell them you are having frame rust issues on your Tundra and they will document the problem and give you a case number. I tried to send them a link to this board but they wouldn't accept that as evidence of issues with the Tundra.
However - the more people call and the more documentation they get, the more likely it is that they will take note of the problem and provide relief or compensation. So...if everyone that has posted here with a a problem calls and they open a case for you, you will be protected in the event of a recall and at the same time you will be making it more likely that there is one eventually.
Hi
Went by the dealer the other day for service, had a couple things fixed, saw they had 1 taco down to the bones already and a bunch more on the board. Metioned about the rust issue on the Tundra, they suggested that "I keep and eye on it"..
Yep ... I am fairly confident that Toyota will deal with the Tundra problem, as well. All concerned just need to keep the pressure up -- calling Toyota back to check the stautus of your claim, etc.
If misery loves company -- add me to the list of victims. I have a well-maintained '01 Tundra V8 2WD SR5 Access Cab with 109,200 miles. I bought it new and have felt nothing but love for it until now. I noticed some pretty serious looking rust on the frame when I had it on the lift getting the shocks replaced 18 months ago. I just assumed it was your usual, 7 year-old-truck, run-of-the-mill type of New England rust. (Interestingly, the service guy tried to sell me undercoating at that time. Kind of like closing the barn door after all the cows have run away, isn't it? ) This week my right rear leaf spring snapped in two. I went online, as I usually do, to estimate the repair cost and see if anyone else had experienced this problem. Then I thankfully stumbled onto this growing rust problem. I've now officially logged a complaint with Toyota and the NHTSA, and have been playing phone tag with the Toyota rep for the past two days. Hopefully, Toyota will own up to this mess and do something soon. While I wait for a resolution, I am the proud owner of an eye-catching, beautifully-maintained lawn ornament.
I did chuckle a little, because I thought he was kidding around at first. Here's one pic of my snapped leaf spring, and another couple showing areas of major corrosive rust. I'm sure a little "Rusty Jones" could've saved the day.

I feel for ya my friend. It appears from my view of many posts from NE members, that the NE based 1G Tundras are taking a beating with the "salt" region. I hope this works out for everyone and Toyota jumps on board to get it right.

The pics look all too familiar (check my gallery). What really gets me is the body is in great condition underneath. The frame took the beating along with components underneath. I've invested a lot (time/money/labor) in cleaning the mess up and still not quite done... Another winter of road treatment on the way.
Good news guys. A guy from the US DOT Vehicle Research and Test Center just spent about an hour under my truck taking pictures in my driveway.
He said he was involved with the Tacoma problem a few years ago and the Tundra complaint rate has "now risen to the top of their pile". Because of his Tacoma experience he knew exactly what to look for. He has several more Tundras to look at in my state (Ohio) and admitted that the ball is indeed rolling on this !
I gave him the tundrasolutions url and he promised to research the site for rust issues.
Perhaps not coincidentally, all these frames were made 45 mins up the road from me at Dana in Toledo !
If anyone has not registered a complaint with their DOT AND Toyota, get it done. We may see some action soon !!
The time to push has come !
