I read about the Tacoma rust issue but i emailed Toyota and they stated the Tundra wasn't part of the program and probably wasn't going to be. But things can change.

I believe Tacomas were either to be fixed or a dealer buy back, no word I heard on the Tundra though, but that was for rust that perforated the chassis, not just surface. I'll keep my eyes open.

my dealer says it is Tacoma's from 95-04 and if there is any rust, toyota will BUY the truck back. they also told me that the 4 runners are the same frame, but the difference was that 4 runner's were made in Japan and Taco's were made here in the US.

My 99 tacoma only had mild surface rust on the frame whem I got rid of it in 06. I think it all depends on how you take care of it. If you frequently wash the undercarrige in the winter I think it makes all the difference in the world.

But with the amount of salt they have put down this winter in Mass, i'm surprised my tundra isn't a pile of rust right now. Its ridiculous!

The rust issue is on 95-00 Tacomas only. Toyota is extending the rust protection to 15 years from original sale date. See the article here:

Toyota deals with rust issue on 1995-2000 Tacomas | Automotive News Blog - Wide Open Throttle

I sold my '98 Taco (just like the one pictured in the article) a few months ago and it had zero rust on it, but then I live in a nice weather area.

I'll be shocked if we don't see one on Tundra soon. Several people here and on edmunds have discussed frame rot issues - including on person from New Hampshire saying his 00 Tundra would not pass inspection due to frame rot.
On my 2000 that I just sold, it was obvious that it would have some issues down the road - especially on rear shock mount towers. And I have been very faithful to wash underneath since I bought it new. This is another ding in Toyota's reputation, I'm afraid.

NHTSA Website. I don't see anything for the 2005 Toyota Tundra regarding paint or rust.

Bedliners won't/don't help(I have one), the rust is coming up from underneath the bed, where they did some spot welding of the cross members...
