i have an '02 tundra v8, and it's about time to change the timing belt and water pump, do you guys recommend i change the bearing seals and tensioner as well? what did you change on your 90k service?
Most independent shops will do the same job for ~$500
IMO - tensioner and bearings don't REALLY need to be replaced, you can check them out once you pull them out - if they look good you can reuse them... the bearings are very solid parts, I doubt they'd be that easy to break.
Get a quote from a few independent shops with them using toyota parts. They can save you some dinero on labor costs. Aftermarket parts quality varies greatly and should not be trusted.
Oh Man, I just got my truck back today.
I also have an 02 Tundra w/V8 100k. Here is what the ticket says:
timing belt, water pump, thermostat, crank and cam seals, V-ribbed belt, 1 gal antifreeze.
that armor all is wirth the $1,100 isn't it. I always thought that it is funny that you spend a good $1,000 and what they give you in return is a drive through car wash. I always laugh about that.

Labor $780.89

$1160. incl tax
Oh, and they put armour-all on the tires
I got pretty much the same thing done by my local mechanic (damn I didnt get the armor all treatment) for around $550. It was about $250 for parts (I shopped around for the best price) and $300 for labor. It may be worth a little extra to pay Toyota for a "major" service like this but I could not justify paying $600-700 extra.
$1000? That is freaking insane. I am at 88,000 miles. The dealer told me that the 90,000 mile service will include the timing belt, tranny service, and some other things that to me seemed unnecessary. e.g. door lock lube, spark plug change, borescope the engine.
They quoted the 90,000 mile service at $800 but like I said most of it was unnecessary. The timing belt was gonna be $369 for parts and labor. I think the tranny fluid was like $70. They didn't even mention the water pump, it wasn't on the quote.
I think I am gonna have the timing belt done but thats it. Everything else I can do on my own. I might have the fuel system flushed and the injectors cleaned while I'm at it.

That's a damn good price, I might just drive to Corona (and maybe hit vegas after.) I'm due for the 90k in about another 10k mi.
Prices are always ridiculously higher here in CA. I'd go to indie shops but I don't trust them any farther than I can throw a 22''.
Well I live in Rancho Cucamonga now but if you're really driving out here then hit Crown Toyota off the I15. Just take the 10E to the 15S and get off at Jurupa or take the 60E to the 15N.

Not changing the water pump while that far in is foolish in my opinion. There is a very good chance the water pump will not last another 90K, and then most of the work will have to be done all over again. Remember, the water pump is driven by the timing belt, and requires almost all the labor to change as the timing belt job.
