This is a discussion thread titled "1/4 tank gas mileage", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
well I purchased 72.00 worth of gas on Sunday to fill up my 06 double cab and after driving daily to and from work all week I was surprised to see that I got 96.7 miles on 1/4 tank ...I still have 3/4 tank left and am anxious to see how many more miles I can get out of it

Keep in mind, that last 1/4 tank will go a lot faster than that first 1/4.

Logically, the last quarter should go slower since you're not dragging around the weight on the other 19.5 gallons of gas - ~ 120 lbs. However, you're not going to run the last quarter completely out and end up walking, so the gauge is biased to make it look like you're empty when you're not.
I get about 100 miles with 1st quarter tank, and 100 miles with the 2nd quarter tank, and the last 2 quarters I get about 50 miles each b4 being Empty. I usually get 300 miles to a full tank.
I have a 2004 Tundra 4.7 4spd LSD with 2.5inch front spacer and 285/75/16 Pro Comp M/T.
hi full to 3/4 is 100 miles
3/4 to a 1/2 about 50 miles, 1/2 to 1/4 another 50 miles,
and from 1/4 to the light comes on about 88 miles. give or take 5miles.
and tahn you figure tyou have another 5.something left in the tank.
so
100
50
50
88
------
288 miles to the light comes on. and another 5gallons at approx 14mpg= 70
288 plus 70= 358 to bone dry.
when the light comes on i put 21 gallons on. at 288 miles driven.
i have always wanted to carry a 5gallon jug and full the tank and run it till it's bone dry just to see how many miles it would really go, but it's no good to do, you would suck up all the junk in the bottom of the tank. maybe clugging and doing more damage than good.

If only they'd put a bigger tank in these guzzlers. I bet less folks would complain about the lousy mileage if they could get 400-500/tank. Nevermind the $100 fillup. But seriously, it would be nice if I could drive all week without filling up.
hi,
thats easy to do, if we really wanted we all could add a 2nd tank.
i have a few friends with fords. 2 of them added another fuel tank.
but honestly, you would love all the extra miles you would get.
but when they have to fill up it costs them 3 to 4 hundred.
they added a monster tank.
1 is a professional fisherman and you see him on TV every once in a while.
he needs to drive long trips. all over the U.S.
plus as you know pulling a boat, lower's mileage.
he used to have gasoline, now switched to the Deisel.

I have a 2nd tank in my Dodge, but it eats up bedspace. 1,000 mile range pulling 15,000# is sure nice. Especially since I have a source for bulk diesel locally.....I rarely have to fill out on the road. But that's overkill for a 1/2 ton gasser with a short bed to begin with. Not sure who decided 300 miles should be the range of a vehicle....course my VW TDI could do 700 miles on the factory tank.
i hit the top mark at 30-40 miles, the 3/4 at 95-115, the 1/2 at 170-190, the 1/4 at 270-300, and light comes on at 325-360.
Just got 18.8mpg average on 2 tanks of gas driving 25% city 75% highway with a dirtbike in the back and tailgate down.
