1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "PULSTAR spark plugs first report.", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Here is my first report on Pulstar spark plugs that I recently installed. I found a coupon code on another forum (that unfortunately expired last month) that lowered the cost to $163.00 for 8 plugs shipped. I set the gap to factory specs, and unhooked the battery during install to reset the computer. The cost over iridium plugs is about $100.00 more for the set. As I have no access to a dyno, I realize all is subjective. Idle seems very smooth with less hesitation when power is needed. I consistently go 325 miles before the low gas light goes on in mostly city driving for my daily commute. With the Pulstars, my first tank went 365 miles. If this holds, I figure that to be a 12% increase. And again, if this holds, I figure the plugs will pay for themselves in about 12 fillups. The plugs I am replacing have less than 5000 miles on them, and did slightly improve my mileage when I put them in. I haven't made any other changes recently. As mileage is very dependent on many factors I will keep you apprised of future mileage figures. Good luck to those willing to try them out.
I also have some Ocean front land in NM for sale cheap, lets do the math.
Denso IK-16's 12.00 ea
E3's BE1 24.95ea
i find it hard to believe that you will profit from this transaction but if it makes you feel good it's all good!
This i think is a Clinton Math Test
NEVER ever have I seen plugs make any real difference in mileage or power in any engine ! from lawn mowers to motorcycles to turbo race cars ............. unless the original plugs were fouled or worn out.
If you have regular plugs in decent shape, like, say original TOYOTA plugs, if you replace them with iridium ones, they will last longer, but i doubt they will give you any more power or gas mileage improvement.

OK guys for one second lets play along. That great 25.00 spark plugs works more power better mpg. If so why doesn't every car manufacturer use them. Just think a V8 truck getting over 20mpg. How many 1/2 ton truck could they sell ? Wow just imagine if he installed the tornado fuel saver too , no need to make the pruis now.

Haha, If your ocean front land is on Central and Louisiana, count me in!! Lol, just kidding... The only water in that part of NM is on freaken San Mateo during a thunderstorm... That turns into a lake so fast.. NM has the worst drainage ever!

Man you are brave, water hole in that part of town could be costly and probably more than a 8 pack of E3 Plugs! Big thing in NM is when it does rain you can't see what lane you are in? paint on streets is so bad ya just drive where ya can?
I looked at these plug too when I first saw their ad in the mags. Looked it up on the net and the price stopped me dead in my tracks.
Yeah same here. I said no thanks. And there was another thread around here about these too that made myself and others think SCAM when we saw them and the talk about the supposed voltage they put out which is comparible to lightning (well a lot but not in the billions of watts)1,000,000 is what they're claiming LOL . Real certified Electricians and people who knew what they were talking about chimmed in and called it out as false data with those claims. I no longer see that information on electrical output anymore on the site of theirs, just external pdf, data sheets. Heres' one:http://www.pulstarplug.com/pdf/enerpulsepopsciad.pdf just claims and stupid so called facts/how they work with the history of spark plugs.
Its funny these were advertised in the Science Magazines though for promotion and you would think that is legit enough to get into science magazines. But hey you can easily pay your way into magazines/TV infomercials to get recognition this day in age even if your product is bogus or BS. Just got to have the money to throw around at the Hotshots bankaccounts. I don't know still if these work or not, I'm no electrician. The price tag alone says ....Screams H E L L no for me.

Reason: The claim they made

I want to hear your report. If all holds true there should be a noticable improvement in power. It is hard to believe all the gains these plugs suppose to provide and the cost is off the chart.I thought Iridiums were high.
Under almost all conditions, a "stronger" spark will not create more power. The idea behind the stronger spark concept is that you'll burn more/all of the fuel that gets injected into the cylinder. I've also heard that a stronger spark is needed when high cylinder pressures are in play (e.g., boosted engines). From my experience, a stronger spark or a multi-spark setup will simply keep you from fouling plugs if you a running on the rich side of things.
The difference between plugs is really in how long they last and their ability to throw a consistent spark across RPM ranges.
Bottom line is that the spark plug just ignites an explosion in the cylinder. That's not real hard to do. Of course, if you have a poorly designed combustion chamber or a spark that is tucked way up in the pocket, you won't get good exposure to the fuel/air mixture. So, if you want to boost your horsepower by way of ignition, change the location of the spark plug. On the 4.7, the plug is in the center of the cylinder, so it's already close to optimal.
Well I've always been told that you can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh!t and the same principle hold true to this application. The plugs can't physically multiply the power entering them. Now if they featured a mini quazar power cell in each of them to augment the power from the vehicles electrical system then I might buy a set. If you feel better about your purchase so be it but I'll stick to denso/ngk iridiums when time comes to change my plugs out.

I find it interesting that so many people have a negative comment about this particular modification when I see tons of intake and exhaust modifications that don't result in anything more positive than additional noise and a feel good factor. Give the guy a break for at least willing to try this one when a lot of owners have made poor choices themselves. Do I agree that these plugs are worth the expenditure, probably not, but then I feel the same about the other mods also. Fifty some years of driving and biting on these mileage and power claims for the first ten or so have made me very negative of all of these product claims. Most of them are the result of a product marketing genius and advertising in the right arena. I won't name them but you can figure they are the ones you see in varying forms of racing.
Larry
PS: Note that I have a Aero-Turbine muffler (feel good factor only) on my Tundra but that was for the sound I wanted and I had no expectations beyond that.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
