1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Question about supercharger cross compatibility", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I'm currently selling a 2003 4.7l TRD supercharger on ebay right now and I had a few questions to ask you guys because I've had some that I don't know the exact answer to.
A lot of guys want to know if it's compatible with the 2004+ models. I know it's not with the 05-06 because of the VVT-i introduced in those models. But I'm not sure if something changed in the 04 model.
I've been trying to do some more research for these guys with the newer models because that's what my Q&A'ers own. On your site I came across a thread where they mentioned the URD ECU and how you can replace the stock TRD ECU on any supercharger with this one.
To help me and any other buyers out, I'd like some more information that I could possibly share with others and any help is well appreciated. So here's the main question:
If someone who owns a newer model buys this, can they also put on the URD ECU and make up for the deficiencies of the TRD ECU? Mainly fuel and timing curve as well as the VVT-i for anyone with an 05-06 model?
Here's the link to the supercharger if anyone is interested by the way. It's brand new and only been taken out of the box a few times.
Re: Question about supercharger cross compatibility
a 2003 supercharger fits a 2003 and a 2004 without the VVT-i. Thats all folks. Or you can sell it some people who will be on here asking for help later as some have been trying to make it work on a 00-02 Tundra, V-8 4Runner, Sequioa or Landcruiser on whatever years.
Good luck on the 2500 opening bid, it'll probably stay there til' the last seconds and then people will fight for it. I've seen it happen and lost out myself that way on the last 3 secs with people outbidding you on the S/C. It should be interesting, Watch it on the last min. and refresh the screen constantly to see the action unfold, if any being gas is 4.00 a gallon now. But I'm sure it'll sell being it really is NEW. But yeah how is it New. Its 5 years old already. How'd you acquire it? Has it just been sitting in a box somewhere in a Dealership and you work there or found out it was there and picked it up cheap?

No, I bought it a few years ago for my dad as a Father's Day present because he's a hot rodder and likes all his vehicles to have some get-up-and-go. Unfortunately he had a stroke shortly after and decided to hang up his hat on fast vehicles. Since then it's just been sitting in a closet at home. Eventually he got rid of the truck to help pay for the medical bills and rehabilitation and now I'm finally selling this because I no longer have a need for it. He'd been pestering me to sell it but I kinda shrugged it off for a long time. My mother owns a 2000 TRD Tundra but she's not an old hot-roddin' kinda gal.
I bought this from the Peterson dealership and honestly, the worst looking thing on it is the box itself. :shrugs:

I don't know if it works on an 04 but I can tell you it adds 46% HP peak to peak and 50% max power @5500 RPMs. That translates to +120 HP max on my 03.

Re: Question about supercharger cross compatibility
The Supercharger itself will fit all 4.7 toyota engines..the difference is in the Piggyback computer, both in the connectors and the tune. '03 and '04 are the same...others have different connections and tune. Difference in the number of additional injectors in the back of the SC also. 00-'02 have one injector and '03/'04 have two injectors. If a person was to buy the SC for a different application, they could go with a custom programmed Unichip, Split Second, MAPECU2, etc.
Re: Question about supercharger cross compatibility
The TRD Supercharger will physically bolt up to any 4.7 V8 through 2004. It will not bolt up to the 2005+ engines. It has nothing to do with the VVTi.
In 2005 Toyota switched to a 2 way catylitic converter and that requires an air pump to pump air into the exhaust. Toyota mounted the airpump in the V of the engine and the supercharger will not fit over the air pump.
The TRD piggy back control units are very year specific and you have to be careful to know ahead of time what works with what years.
URD has our own AIC/Timing Calibrators that work very well to replace the TRD controllers. We have plenty of them on hand and would like to move a few. Anyone that wants one call us up and we will make you a smoking deal on one.
URD is also importing distributor for the MAP-ECU line of products and can set you up with one of those units if you wish and if you own a shop we can wholesale them to you.
