1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "6" Suspension Lift", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Need some opinions -- My son has a 05 DC, we put on the Bilstein's 5100 and 1.5 rear blocks and got a 3" lift out of it. He is not happy with this and is looking for 3" more lift. What are the best options? Cost would be appreciated.
uninstall what you installed and put on an RCD 6" kit

Nothing too fancy, just better than stock!
Of course, since you've already spent money on parts, a 3" body lift would be less expensive, and carries the benefit of being removable later if you choose to sell or trade the truck. You cannot "uninstall" the RCD kit, or any other drop bracket kit.
What's he looking to do with the truck? Offroad, work, farm, hunting? Mall crawling and shows? Dirty puddles? Fire roads and backcountry camping? What tire size is he looking to run?
Body lift is a few hundred for the kit, you can install it yourself or it'll be several hundred more for someone else to install. RCD kit is a couple grand.
that kit has the cheesd!ck spindle spacer though. get the $1550 kit with new spindles... but by then you could spend $500 more and get RCD

My opinion on this is tell him to get over it. Is he paying for this stuff? If not, I say suck it up and be happy, alot of kids wouldn't get the 3 inch lift.

Thanks for the replies so far. He is paying for it, I am just there to advise and also to help install. I think that $2000 is alot to pay for 3 more inches (Somehow that just does not sound right). My advice so far has been to leave it like it is (I think it looks pretty good) but then what do parents know anyway!
Tell him that 3 is fine if he's not looking into spending 2000+ because your best bet would be the RCD, which is a little over 2000 just for the kit. Also, you would have to uninstall the lift that is on there now. If you aren't installing/uninstalling your own lifts, the costs just go up.
Tell him 3 is better than none!

Now there's an idea. Tell 'im to take that 2K to Tijuana and buy three more inches.
That's gonna be my standard answer to lift questions from now on .
Send him over here...poke around the Offroad forum and the FAQ links in my signature line, and this forum...probably more information there regarding lift kits, ride height, ride quality, and suspension performance than he'll ever want. Even some links to suspension tuning articles on a couple other forums. There's way more to setting up a good truck than making it tall!

you dont ever want to skimp on your suspension upgrades. the IFS suspension system is weak enough for heavy applications. at least with the RCD kit, it comes with additional torsion stabilizers, beefy knuckles, control arms, billstien 5100 shocks, all for your wheelin needs.
it doesn't end with just a 6" lift, if he wants to run taller tires, he'll need a gearset upgrade so he can get off the line, and have plenty of power to spare for four-wheelin, towing, etc. that will cost a good thousand dollar's to have a pro drop them in.
keep the truck like it is, and tell him to save some $$$ and get it all done right.
p.s. , say NO to body lifts. thank you.

This is 100% true if it is a 4x4 but it is 100% wrong if it is a 4x2.
