1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra MPG's", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Yeah, I know! This topic has been beaten to death. Well, let's resurect it and beat it some more.
First, I know I drive a truck and the mileage is not spectacular - I know that. Second, I drive like a little old lady to try to conserve fuel - that gets boring. C) Plugs are new, Oil is new (full Synth), Tires new and properly inflated.
So what gives!!!!!
I filled up this morning and checked my mileage (as usual) and only got 14.9 mpg!! This was with 75% highway and 25% city driving on the tank of gas.
During the winter, with the cold weather, at least a 90 second warm up time and ethanol added to the gas my mileage was about 14.5 mpg city.
Now with spring, warmer weather, no warm up time and no ethanol added to the gas my mileage has creeped up to about 15 mpg.
Wow!!
Is the fuel they sell us at higher prices every week also becoming lower quality every week?
Hey, the oil company execs have to eat too, right!?
I've put on about 12,000 miles on my Tundra in the last 10 months. I bought it with 22,000 miles on it last July (it's an '04 DC... averaged only 7,000 mi./year). At that time I was getting right around 17 mpg city, 18.5 - 19 mpg Hwy.
Man, I truly love this truck. I wash it all the time and keep up with the maintenance like clock work. It's truly hard for me to keep me butt out of the driver's seat and go for a ride. But, my hobby/passion is getting expensive to enjoy.
Ah, screw it - the kids can just have cereal for dinner again tonight.

15.5mpg 75% freeway@ 70mph 25% stoplights @45 mph.
Does not get better or worse just that.
Gonna try slowing down but if I get 2mpg better that is just $400 dollars a year.
So maybe I won't slow down afterall and I am not gonna play on any more gas mileage post as a COUPLE MPG EITHER WAY is all the difference you are gonna make so everybody just get over it or buy a PRIUS!

Mine goes to pot with ANY city driving. I was averaging 13-14mpg on my old commute which was around 10 miles. 7 miles of rural driving and 3 miles of town. My new commute is 21 miles of 2-lane 55mph roads and 1 mile of town and I’m averaging 16-17mpg. Best I’ve ever done was 19mpg on long highway trip running 65mph. So it’s basically right on the EPA numbers, although historically I’ve always beat them. My previous Chevy averaged around 17mpg on my old commute and would do 20-21mpg out on long highway trips.
many of us, are true & real. 14 to 18 is more realistic.
and other claim 20 to 24mpg with V8 4.7
well we all can't be right. or can we?
i get 14 to 16 depending on how i drive.
but thats mostly city. 90% city 10% highway.
as i said, many are starting to give in to the higher prices. it's either food, on the table or gas in the truck.
if you don't need the truck for work, honestly, get rid of it, and buy something that gets 35mpg.
it's only going to get worse. gas price's
i said it before, if you live at home with mommy & daddy no big deal.
but if you have a family with kids and there is no need for you to own this truck, get rid of it.
it's your money, take the extra money and apply it to a college fund for your kids.
think of your family instead of yourself.
my kids already have full college funds, and mostly everything i own is paid for.
but for many of you, that work for someone else, and if 1/3 of your check goes to gas, your nut's. & if it's more than that again your crazy.
take the loss, and start thinking of your family, it's your money and your family.
if i had to make this choise ,i would sell my truck.
it's only a truck! even mine, with all the items i added, it's a truck, not your family.
my 2 cents,
gorilla
Ethanol has a lower energy density than regular gas. You'll get lower mileage with ethanol. If the price is right, you can save money with ethanol, but if price is about the same, I wouldn't use it.

for me, its gas in the truck.

I rarely break 15mpg w 70/30 Highway/City driving. Took trip from Miami to Orlando several times w cruising speed around 70-75 mph and I never hit above 15mpg. It's a truck and the way I see it if I want better mpg then I'll use my car instead .
In the winter, I get 12.5 mpg city.
In the spring, 14 mpg city.
The best I've ever got on the HWY is 18.6 mpg coming down from the mountains. Usually it's about 16-16.5.
I have to drive my 350hp 1999 Mustang Cobra as my commuter car as it gets 15 city and 21 hwy.
Go figure.

hi, every post here i believe, so far.
everyone of your mpg are dead on & you all are being honest, i commend you all.
i would even believe that there are some tundra's that might that get 1 or 2mpg higher.
i just wanted to say THANKYOU FOR BEING TRUEFUL.

Typically get about 14-15mpg mostly city. With 285s and 4.30s with the speedometer/odometer corrected with TruSpeed

A lot of fun to drive, must have some mods done as my mom has a stock 99 SVT Cobra and it only puts out 330 HP
