1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "No Deal!!!!", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I won't say what I was trying to trade for so as not to get flamed by anyone but the vehicle was $11,000 dollars off list so I got real interested although the gas mileage would not have been much if any difference.
After a 2 hour "negotiation" I was finally offered $16,750 trade (up from $14,500 original offer) on my 06 Tundra XSP DC with Leather, a fiberglass cover and it is in Excellent condition with no scratches or flaws period.
Dealer even stated how the condition was spotless and miles were low (21k).
I finally gave up and said "NO Deal".
We then started talking "honestly" and the sales manager who had taken over my "Deal" was saying how they could not even get people to look at a truck or full size SUV right now so he just could not give me any money for it at this time (Read: He did not want it).

Dealerships are there to make money period. While rebates and incentives help lower new car prices they hurt used car prices. So where would their profit be if he gives you a deal at cost then pays you market value. That’s why if you want the best deal sell your rig to a private party then go shop. But the catch here in Washington State is we don’t pay tax on the trade in portion of the final number. Example ... new car price 35k trade in 15k we are taxed on the 20k at 8.9%. So with a trade you would pay 1780.00 in tax with out a trade you would pay 3115.00. That is a 1335.00 difference. So let’s say you sell private party and you get 2k more than trade. After paying to advertise and insurance for a month or two, you have not saved much money. The best weapon you can have is know what your trade in is worth wholesale and know what the dealer paid for the new rig. Go in knowing they are going to make some coin off of you. You don’t go to work for free and neither do they.

hi, big engine vehicles are slow in resale and new sales.
and owners of these vehicles that want to buy something new, get hit hard for trade in's. it's such a turn off. you paid 40g's a few years ago and now they offer you nothing. but they still want you to buy there big engine .
there insentives so they say work out ,that you are getting much more on paper.
not really, if yo went in with cash, you would get a great deal.
sadly many are just stuck, with what you got. pimp it out, change it, do something different, to try to change your vehcile's look. yes, you will never get it back, but it's a change. make it better for you to enjoy what you already have.
new are only new for a few months than that new wears off. and now your stcuk with it. in the same boat, becasue there is a new year out, a new style of vehicle, etc.
such as a trd supercharger. or just wait till you see all the new style vehciles coming out within the next few years. real sweet ride's.
GT-R
new bidy of the stang, etc.
i get so many mag. and what's coming out is awesome. HP & torque are up. or if you wanted to go 4cyc gas ecom. there are some really cool looking things coming out too.
gorilla
sign of the times. XSPs are going for $18k around here. If I would have held out a year to buy I could have gotten a sweet! deal. I paid $20k OTD for mine w/7k miles about a year ago... that was great back then

Nothing too fancy, just better than stock!
Yep, i just bought a 2006 DC TRD, chrome step rails, spray in bedliner, Enkei rims, new tires, 23K miles, paid $16,400.00 Now is definitely the time to buy a truck. Mine was listed at $22,900.00, makked down to $19,900.00 and i ended up at $16.400.00. we also do not pay tax on the trade in.

That's a deal! Good for you. 23K is nothing. Now don't go ruining it by putting exhaust & fat bas trd tires on it & it ought to get decent mpg's. The only reason folks are selling their Tundras is because they either did not need a truck in the first place or they modified it to the point it got too expensive to drive. If they wanted good mileage why the heck didn't they buy a Corolla or a Prius?

Nope, no performance upgrades for me. i just got out of a 95 Silverado with 280K miles. I am enjoying the quite comfortable ride. i drive anywhere from 150-400 miles a day.
Trucks are no-saling at the auctions because dealers just can't move them at all. Historically, a dealer will give you worst-case-scenario auction money because they know they can dump them there. Not the case these days, he might have gotten stuck even with the money he was offering you.
You've got to be able to save a TON of gas to make it worth dumping a truck these days. My Tundra is my daily-driver but I really don't need it since I have my 1-ton for truck duty. It's a convenience to have a 2nd truck around in case the Dodge is out on the road moving horses, but I could get by without it. But not for the huge loss I'd take at this point. I'll just pay for the gas.....
I toyed with the idea of selling mine and getting something that gets better gas mileage, but I came to the conclusion that I'd be better off keeping it and changing my driving habits to maximize gas mileage. I think the time has passed to get any kind of good deal on a used gas guzzler. Unfortunately, it's not going to be too pleasant when gas goes up as expected to $5 or $6 a gallon over the next couple of years, but maybe the time has finally come when America wakes up and takes energy conservation seriously...
