1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "question about a lift kit for 2wd", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
sorry if this is a noob question, but does the 4wd tc 5" lift kit work for the 2wd? or is the 2wd kit more or less money for the kit? i dont have anything done to my tundra yet, but i am hoping to get a good lift. i know its only a 2wd, but im only lifting it cause i like the way they look with chunkier tires. any help will be appreciated.
i believe they work on both the 2 and 4wd... if you just want to lift it for looks and not function i would go the bilstein route or maybe even spacers?
I'm not positive that it will work on a 2wd, but if you do get the TC lift make sure you get the one with the new spindles. It will save you trouble down the road.
yes it works on 2wd. And yes get the $1500 kit with new spindles

thanks for all the replies. i thought about getting the bilsteins, since i dont offroad because its just a 2wd. but i wasnt too sure if those will be good. i want something reliable. im not too familiar with these lifted trucks. since the tc kit is so much more i am guessing they are good and wont break on me. is there any other options to get a good 5-6in lift? i will not do any type of offroading only some light towing, my honda to the track, and thats about it. i just want something strong, safe, and reliable. im hoping to do this before summer also, so i have a little time. most likely i will be trying to do this myself too, i am pretty good with tools and i wrench my own cars normally.

i dont like the tuff country lift personally... i would go with the bilsteins if you dont offroad... or even a set of 2.0 coilovers would be good. If i was going to do a lift kit for 6inches i would go with the RCD without a doubt. all depends on what size of tire you are trying to fit.....
i want to fit 33s easily with room for more. i want to lift 5-6 inches which is why i was thinking of the tc kit. how much is rcd? is there any other options to get my 5-6 inches safely? cause i hear some says anything more then 3 inches will need more then just a leveling kit
If you're interested in a 5-6" lift I think RCD would be your best choice. It's pretty much a complete kit...from cast iron steering knuckles, subframe assembly, Bilstein 5100 shocks front and rear, Steel braided brake lines, & heavy duty sway bar. The good thing is since you're 2wd like me their won't be any cutting necessary. But 33's would look too small so you probably want to look into some 35's. definitely check out the RCD II thread...plenty of info and guys there to help with any questions that you may have...i'll post the link...
if you want a 6 inch lift go with the RCD it is a far superior kit. I personally did not like the TC one at all.
you can get the RCD from www.wheelersoffroad.com for about 1900 i believe? you would have to write them an email though to be sure. Even if it is a couple bucks more the kit is great and is well worth the money. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!

the TC kit with spindles is more than good enough for a 2wd street truck. RCD is def > than TC.... but hard to justify the $$$$
