1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Catalytic converter theft", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Have any of you guys had your converters stolen? There have been a rash of catalytic converter thefts in my area mainly from Toyotas. There have been 4 stolen within a half mile of my house. I thought by now the bastards would have been caught because everybody is watching now. The last ones stolen were from a police officer and his neighbor! The scum likes Toyotas because they can get more money for them (for some reason) from the recycle places and the 4X4's are easy to get underneath. They use a "chain type" pipe cutter because they are quiet. I'd shoot the ...........well you know.
yeah, then you will go to prison for attempted murder and he will be on some kind of government plan sitting on his a$$ raking in money every month. either way, you lose.
but yeah, my dealer says that they get a lot also. especially 4x4 because they are higher up.

You might go to prison in CA, but in KY I'll get a "attaboy" because he threatened my life and my family with a gun, knife, or club! (or whatever I can find at the moment!)
Yep, mine was snatched on tuesday. Another guy in the same lot that day had his "almost" stolen, but his alarm kicked in and the thief bolted after cutting one side. This was Odenton, MD at the MARC train station lot.

Amen to that!
In all seriousness, the laws about use of a weapon to protect your family and property vary from state to state, and KY's are pretty relaxed, especially if the thief had a pipe-cutter and "attempted" to retaliate against you. Fortunately for us, buckshot = more accurate and better range than a pipe-cutter...
In Irvine, the police department is offering to engrave the truck's license plate number on the catalytic converters.
I really like that idea because there is alot of that going on where I live, one of my coworkers sons got his stollen of his Tacoma than a week later there was an article in the paper about how it's happeneing alot.
