Passing up free gas, at these prices?!? I guess I'll be the devils advocate here but were are the facts to all this who has the better gas? It seems to me that most of the posts here are based on what one FEELS is the best gas. I mean I usually prefer 76 or Chevron but avoid Chevron because they are always 15 -20 cents more per gal. Lately I have been going to Costco with no problems and they are cheaper then everywhere else. Oh and by the way I will only put in Arco if I have to

Boosted,

What do you think of the arguements made against ethanol...such as the residue some people are reporting? I'm just asking because this whole topic is so confusing. It seems to me that a vehicle specifically desgined to run with an ethanol mixture would be safe. But for us 1st gen Tundra owners, this has the potential to be a problem. I don't know when the gasoline refiners starting adding ethanol and how much they include, but it just seems that in the last two years the public has been hearing more and more about ethanol and now some people are reporting problems. Am I saying with certainty that my current stumbling is an ethanol problem? No. I am suspect of the gasoline I was using but that includes other things such water vapor, debris, and ethanol.

how i know there is a difference, is simple. i have motorcycles with 4 carb's on each bike, jetted ,etc. and even using 93 octane, if i use 10% ethanol , or any other additive other than straight gas there is a issue.
so i know there has to be a difference in the gas with that stuff.
i try my best to use only gas that is 100% gas.
thats not how i feel about it, but what i know.
now as far as my truck, it also runs different, and now yes, it is how it feel's, it runs with less power when i step on it, when i use chevon or any type with ethanol.
and i only use 93 octane.
and like i said there is a difference in the pump filter system that pumps the gas into your gas tank, some pumps have none, so whatever is in there huge underground tank goes straight into your tank. now if the pump has a added filter, it runs from ther tank through the filter at the pump and through the line and handle into your tank, giving you a cleaner gas.
my 2 cents, not worth much, but it is what it is.

I have seen no residue at all. I have torn the top end down several times during cam swaps and to change cylinders. With only 10% ethanol in the fuel it will not change the fuel mixture enough that will make it misfire. Toyota even allows fuels with 10% ethanol to be used in the tundra and basically every vehicle manufactured after 1996 when obd2 became the norm on all vehicles. After 1999-early 2000 the second generation on obd2 came out and it compensates for changes even better then previous models. It will tell you when you have too much ethanol in your fuel system because the ecu will reach an allowable limit for fuel injector pulsewidth and throw a check engine light. The only reason that i can think of that may leave residue would be the fact that it is an oxygenated fuel. Oxygenated fuels and nitrous oxide for instance will leave a white substance behind if it is run at dangerously lean conditions. Trust me on this, when your running 38 psi of boost and have a 100 shot on nitrous on tap and you find a lean spot in your fuel map you will have a powdery substance in your engine and it will burn a hole clean from the combustion chamber straight through the valve cover.
All in all i think people just want to complain about something and pass blame. Ever wonder why we all these stupid lawsuits. To me i think that the carbon that gets deposited in the engine is much worse than anything i have seen from the use of alcohols. It gets a lot of bad publicity here in my town too because for years they have been trying to build ethanol plants but nobody wants in their backyard. If the government would get strickt and we can find a better way to produce ethanol it would be the way to go but for now it makes a great octane booster. Take a look though a summit racing catalog and notice youll start to see Holley carbs set up for e85 now maybe it will take off. Only time will tell.

If you guys have any questions of ethanol just let me know. I program fuel injection systems and can tell you just about anything you need to know about any fuel. Please note i do this for racing purposes and wont hack a stock toyota ecu to remove the speed limiter. There are several programs that can do it and radio shack is nationwide for parts.
