Default Turn Signal Problems

Re: 2001 Tundra. My turn signals seem to be activating hazard warning lights. At times the signals work properly but most of the time not. I thought it might be the TS/Hazard flasher but Toyota parts department didn't think so. Has anyone had this problem or know what the fix might be?

First thing I'd look at is in the front and rear lamp housing areas. Could be as simple as a poor connection between a bulb and the contacts in a lamp socket or a wiring connector near them. Usually crossover problems like that are from a poor ground or connection in those areas. Pain in the butt to check but it is the first place to look.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????

Larry
Larry has a good idea. If the problems is what he says, I think the flashing lights would be at less than full brightness. When the truck is on, the power to the lights is at the flasher at all times, waiting for the flasher to be grounded by the turn signal switch, either left or right, to pins 5 or 6 respectively on the flasher. If you don't find the problem looking at what Larry suggests, or if you are lazy like me, I would buy a flasher and see if it fixes the problem. If the flasher is expensive, I would do what Larry said first, because I am also thrifty (cheap).

Thanks for the input. I've checked the turn signal lights as suggested but didn't find anything. The flasher unit is expensive ($53) and not returnable so I hate to buy it if it's not the problem. Thanks again for the suggestions.

$10 for one that fits your truck at Autozone.

OK, not exactly the same problem but I did have a problem with the turn signals staying on and it turned out to be the light hook up for the trailor. If you have the tow package try disconnecting the box that is mounted in the rear of the bed(underneath)
