1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "performance help kinda", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I'm guessing that the unexplained parity (if it exists) has something to do with drive-train efficiency. I can't say for a particular current vehicle but I don't recall Dodge being at the front of the class in transferring flywheel power to the street.
it's all been said on the street racing topic. Everybody take care of each other out there.
i really wish that someone would make a video of a tundra/ hemi race. that would solve a lot of things. and i'm not talking some promotional toyota video like on youtube. but a legit street or track race i don't care, as long as the tundra doesn't have a supercharger. because it should be pretty apparent that a s/c'ed tundra would win. atleast in my eyes but maybe i'm way off.
as for the street racing thing. i can't say anything that will stop someone from racing on the street. so i'm not going to bash on anyone there. to be honest i don't care. if its my day to go its my day to go. be it a street race turned bad or a heart attack. i live my life one moment at a time. do i feel sorry for people who die to street racing? hell yea i do. but if death hasn't stopped people then nothing will. do i race. no, not with 35's and an RCD 6 inch. i keep my racing on my dirtbike in the desert.
I have raced Hemis dozens of times. The stock ones are absolute rockets off the line, always pulling me a couple lengths. After about 50 mph however, they run completely out of breath and I begin to catch up. The fastest ones (regular cab short bed, two wheel drives) usually manage to stay ahead of me through the traps, but just barely. Anything else (quad cab etc) I can catch and pass, sometimes as early as half track. Oh, and mine is only a Gen 1 4.7.
The modded Hemis, however, are a very different story. There is much, much more potential and aftermarket performance in the Hemi than any Tundra engine. With just a few inexpensive bolt ons, they are tough to beat. Hopefully the outlook for the Tundra aftermarket improves in the next few years.
well right now i have a yamaha yz450f and a honda trx400 quad. hopefully soon i'm going to get a supermoto. but not sure which one. and just to keep this on topic:
My Truck is stock With 20'" Rims and I beat them all the time, I have several Friends that have Hemi's and they are really pissed that my truck is faster. Before anyone jumps down my neck, we race at and empty parking lot so we dont envolve the public in our recklessness.
The only Dodge Hemi that I have seen that would have a chance is my friends 2wd short bed. That thing is damn quick. As I have said before, I believe a lot of power is lost in Dodge drivelines. No hemi feels like 345hp.

I think we have all done it at one point or another ( that is: race some other fool on public roads ).
And we all know it's dumb, illegal and dangerous.
If some cop is around, he ( and his buddies) will make sure you get the message above loud and clear.
I confess to have had my share of bonehead stunts back in the days.........
Nowadays, I limit strictly my racing to the racetrack where it belongs. May it be the drag strip or the road racing, I do only on closed tracks where it is safe and I wear helmet, neck protection, race suit, harness and the car has a roll cage.
As an race instructor I recommend you do likewise and LEARN how to drive fast and safe on a properly designed racetrack. You will be amazed at how much fun it is as well as how much you HAVE to LEARN to be competitive.

That is great advice. Seems like the majority of drivers don't know how it feels to drive their car/truck at the limit. And when panic stop time comes or high speed-lane-changes it's slam on the brakes and over-correct drifting time usually. No one ever teaches drivers how their cars work, and react to certain inputs. A couple hundred for an instructed open track will go a long, long way.
OH MY GOD,
the toyota corp is making at 504HP SUPERCHARGED tundra.
i wonder if it is made for off road use only!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gee wiz, i would hope no one would step on the gas pedal, when they leave there driveway. and go down the road, & travel on city streets.
please manuf. of truck's, cars, etc - please stop making power fast vehicles.
unless they state for off road use only, or for track use only.
it doesn't matter what people are driving in the streets, vette, hemi
coda, twin turbo, or a truck.
excess speed is dangerous, right. than agreed.
so why all the BS for the truck, due to weight.
please ever see, what these do?
twin turbo there 4cyc, and have 600HP and stock brakes still on the darn thing.
so please!
i wonder what
toyota is going to do for the truck, brake's, handeling, etc, on there
supercharged tundra. guee i wonder if they might know that people who buy them might just might not always run them at the track.just like the new nissan GT-R, new 625HP vette, 600HP viper, etc. get my point here, not everyone is going to go to the track.
car, truck, 18 wheeler.
and buy the way trucks race all the time, at the track, on TV too. i've seen it.
gorilla
We had an 06 hemi sport on the dyno a few months ago with some bolt ons and he didnt get nowhere near even 300whp like we had thought it would. If i remember correctly he only but down about 265. We thought it would be much higher.

Best post in this thread. Knowing the BREAKING POINT of traction/braking/etc. of your vehicle BEFORE you get there is the biggest mistake people make in my opinion. I have a dumbass friend with an Audi that drives waaaayyy too fast on the streets, so I won't drive with him. I know he's a good driver, but 1: i don't need to die early because he felt the speed limit was too low and 2: he's never reached the breaking point of traction in that car, and I'm not going to be sitting in it when it happens at 120+mph. This is why I think off-roading, ATVs, and Motorcycles help drivers: learning how to correct yourself and not crash in a low-traction surface like dirt increases your reflex speeds, motor skills and coordination. I've been driving trucks/buggies/atv's/mc's all my life and the first time the throttle stuck wide open on my 300zx turbo I was prepared when it started to spin out. If I hadn't had the experience with steering correction, I would probably be dead (putting that much HP to the ground around a turn is no bueno). So please, if you're going to race, just do it where there's no one around. I don't think Jetestundra meant he was going to go tearin *** round town, i've talked to him before and he's smarter than that. as for what needs to be done to beat a hemi? point and laugh at his gas gauge as you cruise by getting double the mileage or more.

Haven't you been trying very hard to get rid of you 105mph speed limiter while doing all of these performance mods to your truck? A little hypocritical don't you think?
