Lightbulb ScanGauge Owners Stop-In Please!

I want to create a thread to compare some statistics we get on the ScanGauge. Such as Air Intake Temp.

I mainly want to compare things that we have modded, such as the airbox. Is my RAMair reducing the temp? At what speeds is it most beneficial? Or is it about par with other members? Does the KN/Volant/AIRraid etc. make it cooler? What about the temp variables with the outside temp, speed you're driving, etc. I think this could be thrown into Excel and made sense of.

Any other suggested topics?
I DO NOT want to compare HP and how we got the HP or MPG or Miles To Empty. I can care less about the MPGs you are getting, there are just too many variables. Hope I'm not sounding rude, I just don't want a super off-topic beaten to death horse running around in here with a broken ankle.

If you don't care or don't want to be a part, that's fine, hit the BACK button on your browser now.

Thanks for reading.
(this won't be the stat posting thread, this is just to get some more ideas and/or feedback)

Its funny I just found this thread. I just installed my scangauge last week and love it. Anyway, I was out for a ride tonight and it couldnt have been more than 65 outside. My IAT was 70-90. I have the k+n fipk. Obviously it is sucking hot air in from the engine heat. IAT went up under full throttle. Ive been looking to get rid of the fipk for a while but love the sound, but this gives me another reason.

outside temp 90+ my truck runs 184 with the a/c on it runs 186.
at a traffic light it rise's 2 degree's. to 188.
thats in the city
on the highway at speed's anyspeed 182 -184, but again outside temp is 90+.
oh i have the VOLANT CAI.
is that what your talking about?
i'd have to really pay attention to this, to know for sure, but it's almost perfect #'s, or darn close

edited my air intake is, usually 5 degree's higher than out side. (VOLANT COLD CAI INTAKE)
for example if it is 90degree's out side my intake a volant cai, my scan gauge says it is 95degree's.
considering it is under the hood, and the endine is on.
5 degree increase is PERFECT!

HP can be played with, if you know how.

closed loop is usually closed until you mash the gas, than it opens.

all the gas depend's on so many factor's.

WHAT ELSE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR

I've got the F°IAT on my gauge list, so I watch it already.

I run the AEM Brute Force CAI and have always been +/- 2 degrees of outside air temp when moving. In stop and go traffic, red lights, etc it will rise maybe 25. But today, with my black truck, I started out with the IA temp at about 125 and engine temp at 83, and these number slowly reversed to where I'm used to seeing them. Oh, I also have the Titanium-Ceramic coated headers which are best at reducing under-hood temps, especially when you are moving and I really think this is helping keep my IA temps down. My engine temp is between 186-188.

Coolant temp goes to about 186F and stays there. Last week when we had 101 F, I was waiting at a red light with my Air Con. at full blast and the coolant went up to 191 F. That tells me that the cooling system is just great !

As far as Intake Air Temp., I have the K&N FIPK and at idle the temp goes up 20 or 25 F above ambient. The worse is when I park the truck for a few mn and start again. Under the hood is VERY hot and the fisrt few seconds after the restart, the IAT can be 30F above ambient. The good news is that after a few hundred feet the air temp goes down to about ambient and stays there as long as the truck is moving. This shows that most of the air being sucked in comes from the outside, or rather that the air under the hood is not stagnating.

BTW, Adrenaline, good idea about that thread !

I don't monitor IAT "on the fly" however I check it once a while. I have the trueflow intake w/ intake pipe wrap and at idle it's at 46C.

Lets share some fuel trims. I have the scanguage monitor the Bank 0 fuel trims (lazy to enter all theose parameters) and my LTFT (Long Term Fuel Trim) is 5% and STFT (Short Term Fuel Trims) is at -5% at idle.

I have the K&N FIPK with some custom shrouds that i made in my garage. when moving, my intake air temp = ambient air temp. when I stop at a light, it does heat up pretty quick, but goes back down as soon as i start moving again. wish there was an oil pressure, oil temp, and trans temp function!!!

I have a 2003 AC and the coolant temp cruises at 193, but I've seen it hit a little over 205 while towing a 5000 lb trailer up hill. IA temp typically runs at ambient plus 3-5 degrees with stock intake, except in city driving where it gets a little warmer than that.
I also tried it in my 99 Ranger which had a conical air filter outside the airbox. The IA ran quite a bit warmer than ambient with that setup, so I switched back to the stock airbox with a Trueflow drop in filter. The IA temp dropped back to ambient plus a few degrees.
Of course the best thing about the ScanGuage II is the way it changes your driving habits as you see what your foot does to fuel mileage.

That seems pretty high. Are you sure that is the IAT? Sounds like the coolant temp to me. It was 90+ the other day here and the highest I saw was around 140 degrees at a stop, went down when cruising.

I watched my coolant temp today and wonder if it has a problem. I have a SC on the truck but I was driving normal at about 65 to 70 MPH at 80 degrees outside. My coolant temp ran from 160 to 198 after warming up. It would stay from 190 to 198 most of the time and never got over 198. Then it woould suddenly drop to 160 for a couple of seconds and then immediately go bact up 30 or 40 degrees. This repeated over and over, never dropping below 185 without immediate change to 160 or so for only 2 seconds and then right back up. I have the TRD required 160 degree stat. Is this normal?

how does the mpg compare at 60 vs 70 vs 80? Is there a drastic drop as you increase speed?

It is very hard to find a PERFECTLY flat road ! On the highway with the cruse control on, I can see about 24 or 25 MPG at 60 then maybe 21, 22 at 70 and 17, 18 MPG at 80 MPH.

Those are approximate numbers (very difficult to duplicate) as NO road is flat enough to let you test accurately.

After watching my gauges for almost a year, I've decided to try and tune it in a bit. Yea, I know, finally...

My fuel cutoff to Open Loop happens at TPS=15. I can hear it as well as see it on the SGII.

So I adjusted my CUTOFF in the SETUP menu to 16. It was previously at 21 or whatever it comes at oem. And from my past posts you've seen that my correction% was around 12-18% each fillup. But now, after 2 fillups with the CUTOFF at 16, I'm down to a correction% of 4.5%.

I've been using the same pump at the same station on every Thursday (Thur is $0.05 off!). Maybe tomorrow the correction% will drop again.

What are you guys using for your CUTOFF # ?
