I see your point Surfbum. Trade in is a joke. A dealer is in business to make money selling cars and trucks. Why they try and over kill it in todays market I will never know. The do this by taking from both ends. Stealing your truck and flipping it, and selling theirs for a profit. I know it is a business. I used to work for Toyota in Sales and Product development. But when a dealership views an opportunity to sell a vehicle, and take a trade cheap the make the mistake of "dropping the bone that is in their mouth for the reflection of the one in the water." This happens more than often with clean vehicles because of both parties knowing what the vehicle is truely worth. My opinion.... Its a sign from God.... Drive the Truck, Love the truck.....
Well that seems to be about 3k to 4k below trade in value. It has been well documented the decreased value in gas sucking rigs. A good friend of mine just bought a new 1 ton diesel. After all the discounts and rebates he walked out 11k under sticker. He needs a big truck for work so it was great for him. With that being said what happens to the value of a two year old rig ? You got it, right in the toilet.
__________________ At least they have circled the problem.
the reason is they can't sell them. so they can at that price. or be willing to just take the trucks to a wholesale audtion and let them go.
like i have been saying the new 08 are are fetching a average of 12g's less than the sticker.
maybe now , it might enlighten you as to why, they offered you such a low amount for your 2006 double cab.
and it is going to get worse.
if you take the hit, and buy a new 1, it evens out.
add 12g's off a new 08 to your 11g's for your trade = 23g's
and pay sticker on the 08.
you see now.
your better off keeping what you got, and just buy whatever you want, and keep them both.
NOW is not the time to sell a truck, but it is almost perfect time to buy 1.
they are desperate to sell what they have on there lot's, so they can get more of what's selling 4cyc 30+ mpg cars.
and
are willing to give huge discount's off there monster V8's. that clearly state on the sticker 13mpg city. and you know that they usually get on average 2 or more less than that.
so you have to understand, that they have to almost give you nothing on a trade.
if gas price's ever go back to under $3 per gallon, than trucks big V8's will be back in demand. until than, we have to just grim and bare it.
gorilla
What exactly is your point? Why would it be worth any more?
there have been people including myself curious as to what they would get... I would have guessd $15k - $16k. So THAT is my point.... what is your point? you drive an 04 so it would be worth less

You don't get it. The dealers are saying in a polite way we do not want your truck. We want to sell you ours but we really do not want to buy yours in todays market.
no... I do get it. I was just posting numbers for those that were wondering what the affect of gas prices were on trade in (myself included)

we are all in the same boat. the good thing is many of us are paid off.
so it's just gas and ins. besides oil change's.
ask the guy's with the 07 & 08's that want to get rid of them. talk about upside down. be greatful we didn't buy a 07 or 08 way back when.
now, it is almost time to buy a new 1. wait another 6months or so.
there left with 07's still, never mind the ton's of 08's. and the new 09's are due out shortly.
wait until the 09's hit the dealership, the offer's of cash back, rebate's, hidden insentives ,etc.
are going to be so sweet, if that's what you really want.

I am in a similar situation. Some dealers are not excepting any V8 trucks here in So Cal. It looks like I'll be keeping the Tundra mainly as driveway ornament. I've been searching for a Rav4 for my daily driver.
Im not totally convinced that it has to do with gas prices, but the economy in general. When I bought the Tundra I was going to trade my a Honda Odyssey (sold it outright) & my 2003 Subaru Legacy GT..loaded, leather etc, 20k miles (way low) and they wouldnt give me squat for it...I have people ask me constantly if I will sell it to them and had offers way way higher than the trade in. Glad that I kept it now.

I recently traded in the wife's tacoma v6(15mpg) for a corolla s(36.6mpg) and they almost didnt take it at all! Said with the recent truck market dropping and having a small lift on it, the truck would be almost impossible to sell. I got 13,500 and it was in absolute perfect condition. KBB is 17,xxx and we had it for sale for almost a year at 15k.
